this is the one I have, with the similar santa/trees/snowman, just realised I bought them from ebay so they were cheaper than that - this one is so gorgeous! I love him! it's really nicely made and looks so cute on top of the cake :D

HOW cute!? candy cane Christmas trees! those would look wonderful on top of the cake, bit pricey but may be cheaper elsewhere, will do soem digging. There are boxes of Jelly Belly candy canes under £5 (havent checked p+p tho)

Loads of great cake toppers etc on Amazon, go to grocery and type Christmas
  • Rosygirl-Have pmed you about Rudolph! That Rudolph DVD is one of my favourite christmas memories, love the songs! :)

I cant remember if Ive said before but a great short christmas film is The Littlest Light on the Christmas Tree. Its only 45 mins long but its a lovely story and I bet you two candy canes and a sprig of holly you'll be singing 'The littlest light on the christmas tree' all night! :D

Before I forget if anyone could spare some time or a gift or two theres a great charity called postpals www.postpals.co.uk where you can send cards/letters/gifts/emails to very poorly children to brighten their day. At christmas they do schemes where you can either be an elf (send a gift/s) or a reindeer. (write to them regularly in the run up to christmas) They also have other themes every month, for example halloween in october. :xmastree:

Thank you! I did manage to see and reply to your pm but then before I could get back here I had to surrender my lappy to DS2 to do his homework, and didn't make it back on until now!
I still haven't managed to see what else they have yet, and have to go out with my outlaws today so will look forward to having a browse tonight. x

Thank you for the link to the charity, I will get the boys onto this I think.

I forgot to mention on Saturday that our Lidl had quite a lot of Christmas goodies, eg. stollen (can't remember who but I know someone was fancying a piece!), santas and advent calendars. My favourite is the flavoured, dark choccie covered marzipan.

    that's lovely!!

as nobody really likes fruit cake in our house, last year DS and I made a chocolate fudge cake - I usually make the butter icing but there was a tin of dark chocolate fudge frosting (Betty Crocker I think) reduced right down in Sainsburys so we used that, covered the whole thing in it, put a Christmas foil ribbon round it and sprinkled icing sugar on the top for snow, I bought a reindeer with sleigh, Santa, Christmas trees and a snowman from Amazon (the reindeer and sleigh is amazing, will try and find link) and they are going to be our traditional Christmas cake decorations each year for whatever cake we make :)

Saimsburys had thir Chrismtas tins and bakeware etc reduced by 90% Chrsitmas week so bought 3 lovely cake tins with Chrsimtas scenes on them for about £1  which we will use each year.

The cake was centre peice for tea on Christmas day

Snugglebunny I LOVE that Betty crocker fudge frosting - normally I'd never say that about a pre-packaged frosting, and I don't like the other BC ones but that one is scrummy. My mum usually makes a little madeira cake and lets the children decorate it but DS doesn't like chocolate cake so no BC frosting. : (
Love the sleigh topper too - I have emailed a Facebook seller about a topper but haven't heard back so if I don't soon I might get the sleigh. Am also getting personalised tree decorations for the children, I want to get them one each every year so they can take them when (if?!) they leave.

What are everyone's plans for christmas cake decoration? I will be making 2 large cakes and some mini ones for hampers. One will need to be cutesy for the children (not that they'll eat it) and one definitely contemporary. Last year I did something like these

    so something different this year!

I am actually taking the lazy way out this year. Those that will be given as gifts will simply be left in the wrapping they have, with a final cover of nice cello & ribbon. Have decided that as there is so much around at Christmas, they may prefer to have something later. This way they will still be maturing (will have been fed alot as I made them in July:D) and they have a late, very late, Christmas present to open.
A smile costs little but creates much :)

Oooo, you can make your own decorations for rudolph cupcakes. Curly wurly or pretzals for the antlers, a cherry or red smartie/sweet for the nose and raisins or similar for the eyes. Its dead easy. You should practice some now tho, just for research purposes you understand... Not to eat them... :rotfl:
