Ooh Own My Own how I envy you:) I'm close but not that close been in limbo now for a few weeks its time for one last push. Don't know if its just me but my weekly big shop shopping trolley has gone up so much lately that trying to sneak a few extras for Christmas is really showing, whereas in previous years it seemed far easier!

    Hi Nanamia,

I don't buy extras for Christmas, I buy an extra toiletry, tin or household item a week. They are often cheaper than Xmas items.

This way when I do my last shop of the year I have all my cleaning stuff, toiletries and many tinned goods.

I can then spend the extra money on nice things.

At the moment Nouvelle toilet rolls are £1 for 4 in Morrisons. So for £2 you could get enough for the Xmas period, and not have to get them on the Xmas shop.

I am sure you would not notice an extra tin on your big shop. But in 12 weeks you will notice not having to get them.:snow_laug
  • Noone's mentioned it but the Next Christmas Catalogue came in the post this morning. Looked through it tonight whilst watching love actually. Aaaaah so christmassy

  • I feel a bit ashamed to ask, but has anyone used the Royal Mail Santa address? When ever we did letters to Santa when I was little, my mum just kept them, and we didn't get a reply, it didn't bother us I thought that he was too busy, for the last 2 years my gran has done the nspcc Santa letter for DD/DS, where you fill in the child's name age, fav gift, best friend etc and they send you one back. But this year my DD is now able to write properly and I really want her to write a lovely letter to Santa, so my question is does the address work and do you get a reply or do you should I still get my gran to get the nspcc one, but tailored to her letter?

I've had the Postal one befoer and must admit was v disappointed! As a result Hubby came up with his own one which we can modify each year. All we do is on one day when we leave the house, push it through the letter box as we lock door then let the kids in first on our return! Could email you a copy if you like x:santa2:

What are everyone's plans for christmas cake decoration? I will be making 2 large cakes and some mini ones for hampers. One will need to be cutesy for the children (not that they'll eat it) and one definitely contemporary. Last year I did something like these

    so something different this year!

    that's lovely!!

as nobody really likes fruit cake in our house, last year DS and I made a chocolate fudge cake - I usually make the butter icing but there was a tin of dark chocolate fudge frosting (Betty Crocker I think) reduced right down in Sainsburys so we used that, covered the whole thing in it, put a Christmas foil ribbon round it and sprinkled icing sugar on the top for snow, I bought a reindeer with sleigh, Santa, Christmas trees and a snowman from Amazon (the reindeer and sleigh is amazing, will try and find link) and they are going to be our traditional Christmas cake decorations each year for whatever cake we make :)

Sainsburys had their Christmas tins and bakeware etc reduced by 90% Christmas week so bought 3 lovely cake tins with Christmas scenes on them for about £1  which we will use each year.

The cake was centre peice for tea on Christmas day

Just realised Snugglebunny you are almost there too:) well done you

I agree, have noticed how much it's creeping up cost wise this year too!

For Christmas food cupboard I have peanuts, Matchmakers, Quality Street, Hotel Chocolat box, chocolate biscuits, champagne x 2 |(bought on offer at Valentines with M&S vouchers :D ) bottle of wine (saved from M&S meal deal) and chilli crackers. Am going to try and get shortbread when I'm food shopping this week, and keeping eye out for candy canes, Festive Friends (waiting for offer) and any offers on bars etc for the sleighs

Have we all just become very tight, or have things just become very expensive ?

There are now so many things that I will not buy on principle, because of the price.:(

SORRY :xmassign: BACK TO HAPPY CHRISTMAS THREAD :snow_grin

I think we all just have a very finely tuned sense of value and proportion! :D

my motto these days is never pay full price for anything - if something I want for a gift is too expensive I watch it like a hawk until it drops to what I think I'm willing to pay - or I don't buy it
