Urgent Help Needed Someones stealing wifi

Sorry if there is a link on here already. Any help much appreciated....

My friends Dad has a flat which has Wifi thro BT. He has nt been there for 3 weeks, he just uses for work when in Birmingham, but BT have confirmed that the bill for Internet usage is 95 this month and is correct, as someone is using a massive GB. What can he do. He obviously has nt set the right password. Can someone tell us what he needs to do asap as BT are not able to help. They just say its his fault. He only uses an ethernet cable to download himself. Hes just about to retire as he s not well, and really can t afford this. When his daughter my friend has tried to speak to BT they just say its his problem and that its not a crime. Its just like stealing money. IMO

If he is using ethernet, then just switch the wireless function off-or switch off the router entirely when not in the property.
The encryption method used should be one of the variants of WPA-not WEP, which is easily crackable. The default will depend on the version of the Home Hub he is using, all except the very early ones use WPA. BT are quite correct, it isn't really their problem. He is responsible for his own wireless security.
If he is already using WPA, then someone has possibly got hold of the wireless key. If so, he just needs to change it to something else via the router's web interface.
If he calls BT tech support, they should be able to assist him with changing/setting it. Or alternatively the BT support pages give all the required info.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Change the password. Don't leave the modem/router switched on when you go away for three weeks.

All he has to do is disable Wifi BT could and should of helped via support to explain how to do this.

This link takes you to the BT forums, 2nd reply from Devon_Dave should be the solution he needs.

Make sure he changes the password of the router too. Dont want them hacking back in and changing the settings back.

as others have said turn the wifi part off, this is in the admin of the router software.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
