New job not going so well

Sadly I think your right, My skills are no longer required around here, all the local companies doing specialist carpentry have closed, so I either suck it up doing basic stuff or I retrain. Imagine having a camera focusing on you all day, with the boss watching to make sure your working!! Never in any job have I had that until now.
So invest! It's a job. So what are your alternatives?
Go back on the dole and face the prospect of nothing ever again.
Get stuck in this job you hate - welcome to the world, because a lot of people are similarly stuck
Live frugally - or even more so - and get that damned driving licence so you can escape the job and the place!
In my book having a job means you have a chance to change things. The dole won't give you that chance. It really is down to you. If every job you have ever had got worse than the last one - what exactly did you do about that? Trudge to work every day or use it to get out. Like someone else said - it's mindset.0 -

What happens is you get used to it and in the end its easier just to stay stuck than do anything productive to get out, I had to get made redundant in my last job to get me out. I will stick this job out but I really have to decided on a long term plan to get things back on track doing something I like, as you say working gives you a chance, the dole does not.0 -

People say its easier to get a job when your in a job and this seems to be universally accepted, even though I personally have never found this to be correct.
What is the job doing if you dont mind me asking?
I've never found this either to be honest, The job, its mind boggling stuff, it involves putting a piece of wood on a conveyor belt where it travels down a production line, that's it.0 -
There are folks worse off than you falk - you have a job even though you think it is mind numbingly boring. At least you are earning and when you are earning, you can save money and put that money towards some self employment so that you can do your specialist carpentry. Think of this job as an opportunity instead of a grind.
You have been there a day - there may be opportunities if you stick it out e.g. retraining, progression to management etc. but you won't know if you quit before you have given the job a chance.0 -

So you are quite capable of doing it, in which case you should have no problem remaining in gainful employment until something more suitable comes along.0 -
Many of us have been in positions in the past where we are not using our skills and experience. I've gone from a project management job paying £500 per day to an accounts assistant job paying £8 an hour where I did photocopying and filing, it's just life I'm afraid.
And then there are admin people on NMW who wish they were so lucky to be on £8 an hour!
OP - I think you need to give it longer than a day. Sure, you might hate it, but unless you stick it out I think there's less chance you'll get something better.0 -
would you prefer to be posting endless threads on here about how there are no jobs to be had or how to find a job or an interview? Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama0

Id stick it out OP, been there myself OP hating a job but i stuck it out and luckily after 2 years i was made redundant.0

I would say the first day of working anywhere is the worst, but I would say give it at least a few months to see where you want to go and do. I have often wondered how getting a job when in a job easier than when unemployed, i found it just as hard if not harder.0
