Hi, you said your monthly pay was £200, seems not a lot for working ful time. If you've only started working for a week or so, you haven't earned enough to be taxed on. Maybe you'll find in next month's slip, you are paying tax, if not have a word with your boss and ask him if he has processed your P45

    It's £200 per week.

As one of those I find your attitude disgusting.

I agree and I find it hard that I am entitled to £71 a week after paying over £15K a year in tax for 20 years to pay for it!

Also OP your figures are so wrong as they are a mix of week/monthly to suit and don't include WTC. You are still getting a lot of govt assistance, just (hopefully) less than when you didn't work.

Here is a quick calculation I did on the difference money wise between working and not, I love the routine of working, getting up in the morning with a purpose, looking forward to getting home in the evening, seeing your pay hit the bank:D but I see why some people don't bother working especially if its in a crappy min wage job

    Not working
    Tax credits £145
    JSA £67
    Partners Pay £108
    HOUSING £130
    CB £47

    TOTAL £1988 Monthly

    Working
    TAX CREDIT £145
    My Pay £200
    Partner Pay £100
    CB £47

    TOTAL £1968 Monthly

And they seriously wonder why there are so many that choose not to work, who, in their right mind would give up a comfortable, stress free permanent holiday to be a slave to an employer and the alarm clock, when the financial difference is so little.

I shouldn't out that the OP thinks there are 13 months in a year as he's multiplied his weekly figure by 4.

No wonder he's not CEO of some FTSE 100 company.

I was taxed straight away when i started current job after being unemployed for 5 months

Thanks, I'll have to get it looked into or they'll take 2 or 3 weeks tax of me in one foul swoop.

I don't know what WT we are entitled to yet until the 4 week run on is over, however the previous time I worked for a similar wage it was only something like £7-£8 a week, nothing major.

Perhaps you're earning a pittance because you spend more time whining about/justifying why you shouldn't work than actually working. You think my OH and I's business makes a profit of £100k+ per annum through luck, do you?

Good for you, I am not whining about why I shouldn't work, I want to work, I want a decent wage for it to make it worthwhile.

Based on your previous quotes I suspect your CT and WTC figures would mean at least £500 a month
