Selling a mobile contract - not the phone?
There are some good deals around at the moment with O2 via Phones4U and others where you can, if you wish, remove the bolt-on data and use your own Sim card. I may be able to get a decent Sim-only deal with Virgin, my current provider as they know I will be leaving otherwise as they don't do the phone I'm after. This would leave me with a spare sim. Unfortunately, I don't have a family member to give it to as my oh has a work phone and my kids have their own sims. Is there any way of selling the sim safely? I realise that I would be responsible for any excess usage so would be looking to only do it if it was legal/safe.
I'm guessing that it is not possible and am running away with my tin hat on............

AFAIK you can't "sell" contracts. If it was taken out in your name, then you're the one responsible for paying the bill.
If you "sell" it and the buyer doesn't pay it, it's you that ends up in hot water.0 -
It is possible to transfer a contract to another person providing that they pass the credit check and the network agrees to do the transfer.
I think the main problem is to find a buyer.0 -
Although, why they would do that when they can get the same contract AND a phone... lol0
-
Because the 'seller' of the contract would pay them some amount for taking over the contract?0

So, if it was possible and I could find a buyer I could trust, I could sell the contract to them at a price which would subsidise (or even be more than) the other Sim. Not sure it would be worth the hassle though!0

Provided the supplier agreed to transfer the contract into the buyers name and they passed the credit check. The logistics of it all seem not worth the bother if you ask me. I certainly wouldn't sell a SIm and not have it transferred into the buyers name, that's asking for trouble, whether you think you can trust them or not.
Each to their own though.0 -

Most contracts offers on there are delusional but you might get lucky and find a [STRIKE]mug[/STRIKE] willing customer...0 -
It's definitely looking like it's not worth the grief. Thanks for satisfying my curiosity.0
