We had a similar BGas salesperson visit, my wife foolishly signed up, although I've checked on uswitch and their online dual fuel would save me over £60 pa on my current suppliers and they had an offer for telephone packages which was £4 per month cheaper than what i am paying for a comparable product with Sky. So overall a saving in excess of £100 per year.
Am I missing something? Seems a decent deal to me although you need to continue taking electricity from them to get the preferential call rates.what a 42 carat plonker you really are Rodders0 -
Dear jaxxy00,
I had a very pushy British Gas salesman at my door last night.
I made it clear at the beginning that I don't sign up for things at the door and that I would use uSwitch to find out if they really were cheaper than my current supplier (PowerGen).
He still tried to get me to 'fill out a few details' - trying to reassure me that nothing would happen for 2 weeks, and they would check back with us to make sure we were happy with everything.
So in other words he was asking me to sign an agreement to switch back to them - and we would have 2 weeks to change our minds!
I repeated that I don't sign up for things at the door and said I would check their prices on uSwitch. He then told me the deal he was talking about wouldn't show up on the Internet because it was only for returning customers.
In the end I had to be really forceful and practically shut the door in his face - even then he said he would make a note to visit me in a week's time to see if I had changed my mind - I told him that the answer would be the same then too - but at least next time my other half will be in the house too and he can deal with the salesman!
I have signed up with the telephone, mail and fax preference services - it's a shame there is not a doorstep preference service too!!!0 -
Hi! AnneHills, they can be very forceful and its hard to say no to them. It makes you feel really rude sometimes and they certainly shouldnt be allowed to lie like he did to me. I had a man from British Gas ring me up asking me to confirm my details for the change, i then told him i didnt want to go ahead with it and also the reasons why. I told him the man had lied about the charges and all he said was o.k. we will cancel it. He wasnt interested in who it was or anything else. I have since had two cancellation letters, one for the gas and one for the electric. I do not want to be thought of as a 'grass' which is why i have not reported this man, but even so i wonder if anything would be done. It seems far too often these days that it doesnt matter about anything other than getting sales. Perhaps his bosses are aware of the kind of things that go on, who knows.0

I don't have a problem with doorstep salesmen anymore, I made a sign on my computer printer which said "NO SALESMEN" and stuck it on the front door. The only person who has called was a New Labour canvasser, when I pointed to the sign and asked him if he was dyslexsic, illiterate or stupid he walked away without a word. If you want to protect your privacy it is no use being polite to uninvited callers.0
