  • but BG is one of its "clients" also?

No, BG is not one of its clients. uswitch have to display all results regardless of any commercial arrangements but they will recommend swithcing to one of their own suppliers regardless of whether you would make a saving.

Actually, the above is untrue. Uswitch ios one of nine independently approved by EW websites. if bg does not show on the site, try looking at all selections and click on the show all suppliers regardless of service rating.
    Beware the green?
  • Yes, uswitch does display BG results but BG is not one of its clients. Therefore, regardless of the actual results (ie BG being cheaper than a certain company) uswitch will recommend the consumer going over to the company with which it has contractual ties as that is how it makes its money.

yes i noticed aftwerwards that if i chose to look at all the companies rather than just the cheapest it did show BG. Anyway i will not be changing over and will be staying with Powergen. I dont know if everyone is finding the same thing or not but it seems everyone i speak to is quite suprised at how high their bills are. I know there has been an increase in prices all round but i suppose it helps to make you more aware of how you can cut back on your consumption therefore lowering your bills. Although we do use low energy light bulbs etc.

regardless of whether bg are uswitch 'clients', it will not affect the price, as uswitch are indepently monitored by EW.

Yeah sure, I dont dispute that. What Im saying is that uswitch do get money for every customer they bring over to their clients. For example, while trying to find a cheap electricity supplier for my area based solely on price I found BG to be one of the cheapest. When I enquired about this with uswitch they advised to switch to Manweb even though it states clearly that Manweb were more expensive.

but u can either choose to have results by cheapest or service rating?

surely if u opt for cheapest then the cheapest is at the top - and the reason BG is down there at the bottom is cos its the LEAST CHEAPEST?

same if u opt to have results by service rating - BG will be down at bottom also?

maybe u had ur results in service rating order? and menweb were top for service even though they werent the cheapest?

its possible that these broker sites get a fee when customers sign up - but i dont agree that they push customers away from companies that arent their "clients"

as loon says - its approved by e'watch
and i cannot see e'watch letting any broker do this for a second

Yes as I said I chose to have results by price

I chose to have results purely for electricity which BG is amongst the cheapest for in my area

There are the results uswitch came up with for me

You could save £167.41 by switching your gas and electricity supply to British Gas Online Energy Dual Fuel.

Why not choose a supplier with a better service rating?

uSwitch is not currently able to switch you to British Gas Online Energy Dual Fuel, but we recommend that you save £151.52 by switching to Manweb Online Energy Dual Fuel No Standing Charge which offers an even better service rating of 83% compared to British Gas's rating of 76%.

I made it clear during the search I wanted information based purely on price but uswitch recommend I switch to a more expensive supplier because they have a better 'service rating' of 7%.

very strange - am sure this cannot be allowed though
they are meant to be independent

why couldnt they switch u to british gas online?
is this not because you are already supplied by BG?
