Now take it out and give it a good thrashing down the motorway, it'll thank you for it.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Simply solution, if the car is using too much fuel then use the car less.
People can find all sorts of excuses not to walk, cycle, run etc but for short distances why take a car. Unfortunately most of our lives and supporting infrastructure are structured around the car. In the 1950's over 50% of journeys were by bike, now probably less than 2%. The car has opened up the ability to live greater distances from work, visit distant relatives etc.
My car does 24mpg around town, used to do 110 miles a week commuting to work. Now I use a bike to do the 11 miles to work. I know it's not a solution for everybody but please look at alternatives, especially as fuel costs are only going to go one way.
No doubt people will say how cycling or walking (short distances) not viable, safe, what about the rain etc but if you don't try these things how would you ever know ?0 -
I got 43.5mpg from my 1.6l petrol auto 2008 focus on a recent 120 mile run on a mix of A roads and motorway. I did drive like my granny though - driving normally on the same route yields around 39mpg
I've managed to squeeze 53 mpg from a 1.8L petrol manual 2010 Audi A3, on a motoway run. Spent most of the time on cruise control between 60 and 65 mph."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
