Sports Direct returns & refunds

I must say I'm very disappointed by the attitude of several people posting on this site and I wonder if they really understand what Sportdirect do.
Scenario: you take an item to the till and buy it with your creditcard, debit card or cash. As you're walking out you realise that it is not the size, colour, quality you really wanted so take it back for a refund. You can't get one. (or more like my true life example, you take it to your girlfriend who says no not really what i wanted so you take it back next day). No refund on your credit card like happens in any decent retailer, so you get a "giftcard". It says that the customer should "treat as cash", but they (SD) don't! Ok, 15 months is a reasonable expiry date I suppose but there is also a clause (number 5) that they may not be used as payment with discount vouchers or taken as deposits. Why?? and is this legal? I sympathise totally with the other customers caught out like this and disappointed with the responders who are in effect saying "what did you expect - Marks & Spencer or John Lewis service". Well yes, of course we do that's why we use this website!0 -

We all want all retailers to be good retailers and offer all the benefits we see at the 'better' retailers.
The simple fact is that not all retailers do offer the level of support the the John Lewis' of this world do, and there is no legislation to force them to do so.
There is room in the marketplace for retailers with different customer service attitudes.
People can often find things cheaper at some outlets, which may well be why some people go to Sports Direct, and later find that that lower price comes with a lower level of after sales service.
I really do not understand why you are disappointed at responses you are seeing.
Generally, people are only stating facts.
Please don't shoot the messenger.

You are expecting premium service for a budget price. Sports Direct operate within the law and it is places that offer good service (such as JL etc) that can actually be somewhat counter-productive in the market place as it means consumers assume that they have more rights than they actually do.
If you want amazing service and aftercare go to a reputable shop, if you want it cheap go to stack-it-high sports direct but expect the service to be somewhat lacking as a result.
If you don't like it then shop elsewhere.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Hmmm isnt "no refunds" supposed to be an illegal term or some crap like that?
Something about misleading consumers about their rights 8-) Would depend on the wording of the sign i suppose. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Mick Ashley owns it and Newcastle Utd. A plus is Newcastle got stuffed on Saturday.:D0

You can get a refund for faulty goods from them.
Anything else it's a credit note.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -

So who do you support then? One of the following?
Wigan (Your comment is understandable)
Spurs (Scared of missing out on the CL?)
Chelsea (See above)
Mackems (Shouldn't you be saying "Ashley Out. Cockney Mäfia Out. Sack The Board"?)
But yeah - I'd never shop in Fat Mike's Emporium.0
