4 year old not dry at night

Hi
My daughter is 6 and she's only just becoming dry at night. So she's dry most nights but we're still getting the odd wet bed but 6 months ago it was 2 - 3 nights a week. I spoke to a school nurse about a year ago and she advised that they'd only start considering it to be a problem when they were around 7 - 8 years old. Before that it was still viewed that they are young and the appropriate bits of their body haven't matured yet.
One they advised was avoiding fizzy drinks totally as apparently coke can make them worse and avoid coloured drinks after 6pm. She also advised to make sure that they drink enough during the day. Wet beds at night apparently isn't due to them drinking too much during the day but not drinking enough during the day can make them worse. Sorry can't remember the full details.

thanks. She never gets fizzy drinks but does have diluting juice. I am concerned that she isn't drinking nearly enough during the day but the more i try to encourage her to drink the less she seems to drink! I think that could definately be causing part of the problem0

I really wouldn't worry. I've got a 4yr old and he's showing absolutely no signs of getting close to being dry at night. When I spoke to HV about it she said that theres nothing you can do until their bodies produce a hormone which concentrates the urine overnight. So its more about their individual physical development than a "training" issue.0

Hello
I am a Mum to a 4yr old too and have decided after lots of chatting to other Mums that I am going to leave her to it.
I have been told by most Mums that it just happens with not much input from them.
This article is a good read - they reckon 4-5yrs is avergae age to be dry at night

Its difficult as I feel it is more important to ensure my little ones are hyrdated than dry at night.

my dd was 6 when she became dry. We had tried cold turkey, limiting drinks before bed time, rewards for dry nights, taking her to the toilet and everything else but it made little difference. She would go through good and bad spells where she would be dry for a week and then have a few wet nights. It takes time sometimes. Her brother was dry from about 4 so no connection there.0

It sounds to me as if she's simply not ready for this step yet. Don't make it thing of it, just quietly go back to giving her pull-ups and leave it another few months.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
