Not sure where?

This post should go but as OS is where I mostly visit...
I had a shock this evening. I went to get the things that were dirty - out of the sink where they were - so I could run a lovely sink of hot washing up water. I got hold of the handle of a glass jug which then - SHATTERED - with a bang! There were bits of glass in both sinks - on the floor - over the kitchen side! It was like - crazed - toughened glass when it shatters. I only had the jug in my hand - didn't knock it - in fact it was the newer of my two glass jugs. Has anyone had this happen to them? The jug was bought at As..

Hi,we had this years ago when the garages used to give free drinking glasses when you purchased petrol.I washed them left them to drain went into the lounge and there was a loud bang, when I went back into the kitchen there was glass everywhere, the glass had exploded. We got in touch with trading standards and they said they were cheap imports.Might be worth giving them a phone and see if they have any more incidents.

How worrying - especially if you had little ones around or hurt yourself. Definitely complain/get in touch with the supplier IMO.

I had the same thing happen, not with glassware but with a denby dinner service. I had served up our dinner and there was a big crack and the plate had literally cracked down the middle, then a dish did the same in the dishwasher and a mug split too, same with my mums set. When we spoke to the shop they said that they didn't actually make it,so it probably wasn't up to their usual standard. Although they did give a full refund and replacement. Makes you lose confidence though and i haven't used them since.

I'd definatly speak to AS and make them aware of it and hopefully get them recalled so that no-one gets hurt

I've seen something similar happen with a pint glass. It was full, too. Heard a "ping" and then the person drinking went to pick it up and left half the glass behind on the table. Drink went everywhere. It just cracked all the way around.

As this thread has dropped down the Old Style board I've moved it over to the Consumer rights board to see if you can get more input.

Was any hot water run before the jug was taken out of the sink? Hot water and glass don't mix unless it's pyrex or something designed to be drunk out of.
