Sorry for being silent, i have been away.
    Hi Richie,
I meant that the night meter is adding units during daytime hoursm and it varies by day on how many units gets added. For the day in question, it added 6.
I have been looking for a clock but i have not seen one. I have only seen the time by the boiler, and it doesnt really say how what the time is.
Terry...how do I find out about the differential E7 tarrif? Why I decided that the rate 1 is the day rate is based on the last bill sent to the address after I moved in, where it was charged a higher rate and the other meter a lower rate. And i do hope it is right, else I will have a ridiculous amount of money to pay.

"""night meter is adding units during daytime hours"""

-post a pic of the meter or agree it looks like this one
    34q5x15.jpg
    - check with your online account / supplier that you are deffo E7
    - - not E10
    - - and not on aggregated unit metering

NOTE - the pic I posted shows which reading or rate corresponds to normal / low ~or~ day / night .. .. maybe yours has the same helpful annotation.

Hi Richie, I can confirm that mine looks exactly like the one you posted, although I only have Rate 1 and 2. I couldnt call my provider to confirm, but from the corresspondence they sent me, I am on economy 7 go save tarriff. Which one is aggregated meter reading? How do I find that out?
    Thanks in advance
  • - the fact that you have only 2 sets of numbers [other than the date] suggest you are not on E10, and are telemetry switched
    - aggregated simply means people who were on E7 or E10 can revert from E7 to the normal single tariff whilst keeping their old telemetry meter
    - their provider will [combine or mix together (verb)] both the cheap night and expensive day units to give an average price per unit

We are left with the issue that you have no evidence that your day rate clock is the one counting the [60p cost] 6 units, so check and record both your day and night units - then :

1 - switch off everything, put your immersion heater for 15 minutes during the middle of the day
2 - that gives you 15 minutes to decide which of the [usually] 4 different page displays is your day units, record them.
3 - this will not only 'prove' which 1-4 is the day reading, but will also give a 'guesstimate' of the kWh price per unit / day / immersion cost

Then check and record both your day and night units again - compare them - then let the forum know both sets of figures - they can't / should not both move.

The Ampy meter from richie-in the Boro photo defaults to show the rate in progress when you look at the meter, all ampy meters, with a button. work like that, they are controlled by an intenrnal digital clock with a back up battery. R4 is used to signify night rate in my area. stephcyl dont waste your time with your supplier, they have no idea, work it out for your self and dont expect any meter reader to know either. Label your meter to show which rate equals which period when you decide just to make sure the meter reader gets it right. that Ampy meter in Sheffield will show the rate in progress when you look at it, it could be either R1 or R2. Check that the time is correct on the meter, it should be approx be an hour behind B.S.T.

Steph, the supplier could tell you if it was E7 differential but it just means you get 1 2hr night period starting at 10 or 10:30pm, then the remaining 5hr night period starts 2hrs after the 2 period ended. If that does tie with your checks, you will be on a standard E7 with a full non stop 7hr night period.

If you have only worked out which rate is which is from the bill and come to the wrong conclusion, you will also find your supplier has your readings transposed. They always ask for the same checks, usually the kettle test to prove which register moves in the daytime.

In terms of E7 standard as mentioned above, the meter still records as day & night, but the supply bills it to the standard flat rate on each register or adds the consumption together on the bill. Whether this is allowed is nothing to do with the meter though, its the industry data and not all E7's are allowed to act in this way.
