Ok. Will check that and get back to you. I guess I have the modern one as I "page" through the various reading. The only issue is that I can't see any spin head to determine which one is "spinning wildy". I only notice a change when the reading changes by atleast a unit.
• - if as you describe you can 'page through'
- you will be on a digital meter, which in turn will almost certainly be 'telemetry' time switched
- switch off everything, put your immersion heater for 15 minutes during the middle of the day
- that gives you 15 minutes to decide which of the [usually] 4 different page displays is your day units, record them.
- this will not only 'prove' which 1-4 is the day reading, but will also give a 'guesstimate' of the kWh price per unit / day / immersion cost

Hi Richie,
I think I already know which of the readings is the day reading based on the last bill sent to the adddress. That's why I am suprised that the one that is supposed to be the night reading increases during the day as well.
Thanks

Then it's potentially being read and billed wrongly-which is why you need to do your own check to resolve this.
The night register cannot possibly move during the day-if it does, it's not the night one.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
• Steph I'm confused, are you saying that the night reading is adding 6 units during daytime hours ?

Or are you saying the night reading is adding units during daytime hours ? - so how many units is it adding ?

Usually you will have a separate 'time clock' / plus manual override for your immersion heater somewhere inside your dwelling - check the summer / winter settings and make sure the clock is set to the correct time.

It could be an E7 split differential so it has a late evening 2 hour burst and the OP believes that to be day rate time.

• Macman is right, dont rely on the bill showing night from day, figure it out yourself as the button meters in sheffield area can be set rate 1 =night or rate 1=day. By what you say that R 2 is showing in daytime hours R1 will be night rate. Also if you dont thave night storage heaters the day reading will be lots more than the night reading.
• I'm moving stuff for one of my grandkids tomorrow into his new flat [uni student]. Nice place etc and on E7. The radiators are panel B]no storage[/B and the water is a tiny under insulated old copper non Part L compliant indirect single ported cylinder B]no storage[/B.

My point is when you think you know everything check and double check, for sure it may be an E7 tarrif but its not an E7 B]no storage[/B dwelling. I'll spend an extra hour there tomorrow photograph the meter and do the immersion boost test to determine the day readings. As a low user on a limited budget he's certainly on the wrong tariff, and as a 'tenant' the workaround of installing a a direct cylinder I]storage[/I and a cheepo 2.4 storage radiator is out of the question.
