Anyone know the cost ?

BT staff themselves are clueless saying BT BB can only be had with non BT Basic but you can choose ANY BB provider but BT

LOL

That cant be right, surely ?

It might not be on the website but you'd think BT staff would have internal notes on it....seems not and at a guess staff say its not possible as *ALL* BT BB includes a calling package that cannot be applied to BT Basic

A calling package is not needed, BT Basic applies but cannot get BT BB or BT Vision due to BT Basic ?

Ar*e & elbow come to mind !

You can use any ISP with BT Basic, it doesn't have to be BT.

BT Vision is needed, BT wont allow BT Broadband on BT Basic which is in contridiction to BT Basic rules that says ANY BB provider

  • I understood that with BT Basic, you can have broadband but it HAS to be BT Broadband. You are not allowed broadband from any other ISP.

And BT will not allow you to have a discounted BT Broadband package either - you have to pay BT full price for their broadband to continue with BT Basic.

It does not have to be BT Broadband, you can use any ISP you wish.
The predecessor to BTB (BT Low User) did not allow any broadband service.

No help on bt.com, pricing pdf's or customer service...emailed CEO office & Ofcom about the abuse of power of BT's monopoly with only bundled options... BT Broadband & BT Vision which infact excludes "BT Basic" customers from digital tv & broadband thus creating a digital tv & internet divide policy within BT of exclusion NOT inclusion on the "at risk" group of BT Basic users & as UK's biggest telecommunication company how did Ofcom allow this to happen ?

BT were adament to sell broadband with FULL line rental only - again this has been reported to BOTH parties, no discount for unused bundled call allowance on BT Basic which puts BT Basic "at risk" groups at a financial detriment.

OfcoN....only taking action POST allowing BT to do this ??

I'll post any updates folks ;)

As already pointed out, you can have any ISP you like on BT Basic. But if you want BT Vision, you have to use BT Broadband, as that's how the on-demand content is delivered. It's only ever been available as an add-on service to BT Broadband.

I suppose you could order BT line BT broadband and BT Vision then apply to have BT basic and hope the line rental reduced accordingly, but that would be risky, it does seem strange that BT allow other ISPs to supply broadband on a BT basic line but then insist if the ISP is BT themselves you have to pay full line rental !!, you could try contacting the BT Reps on here or on Twitter/Facebook as they seem to be better informed than the call centre staff, it may be possible to get what you want.
As far as monopolys etc are concerned BT isnt as regulated in this area as it once was as its market share has reduced, so they can compete with others by offering bundles, and discounts on the 'list price' on products and services, same as other providers...if you wanted a Sky line in their network area you wouldnt be able to have broadband from someone else either, so not allowing BT BB on anything other than a line also rented from BT Retail is pretty common practise

BT just want revenue for a service they wont be providing (included broadband bundled calls) on BT Basic or extra line rental for a landline that wont be used, staff soultion: go outside BT for broadband - its all a breach of anti competative behaviour by BT, pay us MORE or go elsewhere (cos only we do IPTV), shocked at BT picking on most vunerable group of customers.

I get BT BASIC and use AOL so i am afraid your facts are wrong.
