When did this happen ? Does Ofcom no longer see BT as a monopoly ? To get BT Broadband you are NOW forced to pay BT line rental.

Trying to organise BT BB for a disabled person who wants BT Vision as Virgin or Sky not avail & freeview is not on a full transmitter only a relay so they miss 2/3 of freeview, so catch up tv is the only way to do it via Virgin or BT.

User does not use landline for calls as unlimited landlines and mobile mins cover their usage & paid by relative due to health, so wants Primus at £6.79 as a way of continuing the line rental as cheap as possible, but BT want to charge almost £15 line then the BT BB fees which prices the person out the market for BT Vision.

Any thoughts or help...... thanks

That's always been the case. BT broadband requires a BT landline.

BTW, BT Vision requires BT broadband too.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Freesat is the obvious option if Freeview is only available on a relay.

'Too high'? You mean there is a leasehold clause preventing private dishes?

No apartment block serviced by lift, floor 4 is too high for Sky install (Floor 4 is more level 5 due to hill the property is built on), Virgin not avail, So BT Vision & the likes the only option - Talk Talk was considered but they still cant give a date for YouView tv so it was ruled out. Most Scottish properties are FREEhold ;)

So why not get a Freesat install via an independent, if no leasehold restriction?
No way of knowing that you are in Scotland from your earlier posts.

Because the cost is several hundred pounds, need installer absailing down the block, the cost to install is beyond persons means - the help given for anologue switch off/Freeview is £40. So BT Vision is the only product for catchup TV suitable, I was trying to get a PC for iPlayer & the likes but this is far to confusing for them, best Sky/Virgin/Vision as much less complicated learning the remote control than PC.

No go, and I aint hanging out the window LOL, I've emailed the chief exec & Ofcon as BT Vision seems only way & staff wont process & no discount is given for the unsupported parts of BT bundles to get broadband & Vision even on BT Basic - taking cash off someone for a service not provided is illegal & a breach of contract but BT thinks they are immune to such (SHOCKED) so if BT Basic is as it is as part of broadband with calls included SHOULD be applied to the BT Basic account or broadband &/Vision or should be a cheaper for BT Basic user, the most vunerable group of society - many on very low incomes.

Cake & eat it come to mind with BT!

I don't understand your rant. BT Basic is a subsidised social telephony service that only BT are obliged to provide.
Are you suggesting that all BT Basic users should somehow be entitled to a cheaper rate for broadband and BT Vision? Why? These are commercial services and supplied in addition as such. That is made quite clear in the BTB T&C's.
The fact that you cannot get certain other TV services is not BT's problem.
