Rock bottom again

The biggest thing you have to get your head around is that it isn't your son who you brought up making these decisions but he is underneath somewhere just very lost. If you don't let him hit rock bottom he cannot climb back up and if you don't let him go you are going to end up making youself very poorly.
Babymoo is right. Take it from a parent who has gone through every emotion imaginable due to drink/drugs.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Speaking from some experience I've never encountered anyone who behaves this way (I'm not a professional, just from the people I know) My brother went through a stage at a similar age, he was never violent, just infuriatingly lazy. TBH I've yet to meet anyone who becomes violent from smoking cannabis, I think it's a media myth. Again, please don't have a go at me. My sympathies to the OP, maybe your son has other things going on that are causing him to behave this way. I hope you can all find a way forward.
Skunk cannabis can indeed cause people to act violently, unlike the milder cannabis.
The effect can be more pronounced in people who are younger.
So, whilst I wouldn't dismiss the possibility of other drugs being involved, I also don't agree that the link with violence is just a media myth.0 -
Modern skunk/cannibus is very different to the drug that the hippies smoked in the 60's & 70's. Its been altered by advanced horticultural techniques and a consequence is more potent. The experts reckon that nobody under the age of 25 (the brain is still developing) should touch it as the risks in respect to the users mental health are so great. I second what earlier posters have said in making contact with a local support/advice group. You will need to be brave and able to make decisions that you never ever thought that you would have to make. Be strong.0

If you accidentally slashed your leg, and it's artery ,with a pair of garden shears, and were in imminent and massive danger of bleeding to death - what would you do?
Answer: Call an ambulance; get professional help; save your life.
OP - you are haemhoraging your OWN life away (and that of your husband) and isn't it time that you sought someone who would and can put a tourniquet on it?
Of course, if your instant thought is 'I've gotta save my boy...' then no ambulance man or doctor on this earth can save you - and I'd bet money that that is what your saintly husband wishes, to the bottom of his boots, that he can save you from!0 -
Cannabis didn't take your son. Your son decided to smoke it. You can't control his actions. I think all of you need to get some help. Have you tried the GP?
I do understand your despair as have tried to help someone come off drugs too. Them saying that they wanted to ect. It wasn't a happy ending. I don't know if there is any substitute that the doc could give your son on prescription.
At the end of the day though its the old saying you can guide a horse to water but you cant make them drink it. Its your mind set that you do have control over. The best advice I can offer you is to educate your son on the dangers of drugs if you haven't already, at least then you can hopefully get him to stop at just the cannabis and not move on to anything stronger. all the best0 -
I'm not ancient Eamon
and I know what they say about skunk...however, teenagers will say anything to get themselves out of the doo-doo and I believe that you'd have to be predisposed to violent behaviour for cannabis to make you behave like that. I don't find teenagers very reliable test subjects. 0 -
