Have now got Mailwasher to try to filter junk mail.
However, I tweeked the Mailwasher settings and seem to have lost the ability to "bounce" e-mail back to the sender - anyone know what I need to do to get it back?

One thing to remember. It is unwise to bounce mail unless it is done instantly, and I mean instantly.
If the mail has been waiting on your ISPs server for any length of time before you run Mailwasher, then bouncing just tells the receiver that your address is still live. Dead addresses will result in the mail not arriving anywhere and being returned as soon as it's sent, in other words, "instantly".0 -
Do not bounce emails for any reason. The simple rationale is that the email addressess you're bouncing them too either do not exist or ends up in an innocent person's mailbox (more info: What is Wrong With Bouncing Spam & 2 bounce or not 2 bounce). Most of the time the spam's originator is not affected in any way. Simply delete all spam. Also, there's too many unnecessary emails being sent without one contributing to the mess.
Last free version of MailWasher that'll process multiple email accounts - v2beta28. G0 -
Don't bounce them. I use Mailwasher and it's great, but their over-reliance on the value of bouncing to market their product is unfortunate.0

Many thanks for those tips - don't think I will bother to reinstate the bounce.
Only downloaded this free version (5.1.0) yesterday and still getting to grips. I have already managed to delete one e-mail that I wanted (!!!). Didn't notice the other version mentioned on the site.0 -
That's because it's an old beta version. Keep using 5.1 if you only need to process 1 email account. Change to the beta if you need to process emails for >1 account. GLoobeylou wrote:Didn't notice the other version mentioned on the site.
P.S. There are many free alternatives too: PopTray, ePrompter, Pop Peeper, Email Remover, PP MailCheck & Poppy0 -
Another plea for NOT bouncing emails. The spammers forge addresses in the FROM field of their emails. They're not stupid!
The bounced emails go back to an innocent party NOT the spammer.0 -
Another vote for not bouncing.
Also, selecting Delete will send it into the ISP's delete bin.
If you've got web mail you should be able to recover it (yep, been there, done that!).0 -
If you go to "tools" "statistics" you can list the e-mails which MailWasher has processed and undelete any you accidentally delete. You have to set up (somewhere) an e-mail address for undeleted mails to be sent to, as they don't go back to the original one for some strange reason.Loobeylou wrote:Only downloaded this free version (5.1.0) yesterday and still getting to grips. Anyone able to help with this last suggestion of undeleting deleted e-mails and sending them to another e-mail address?0
