    Just maybe though, the OP bought some shoes yesterday because they wanted them now. Not in a few weeks time.

    Added to which, if they don't take them back in a reasonable time, they lose their legal rights to reject them...

    While it's not a storm in a teacup, the op is entitled for consequential losses due to the stores error, reasonable travel cost's would be fair. Compensation doesn't always mean they are looking to profit, just to be in the same position as they were if the error hadn't taken place would be enough.

    I remember buying something from Argos that was incomplete and having to go back to the store. They paid for my petrol and car park ticket - only about £3 but I was really pleased with that.

    Your shoe shop might just do the same to ensure you're not out of pocket.
