I really cannot believe you all think its fine for children aged 4 ill say it again AGED 4 to be using mobile phones with internet access.
It is disgusting you all sicken me every single one of you who think its fine.
Mobiles phones etc shouldn't be used untill maybe 10 and onwards even that is still young.
Using mobile phones with internet access IMO is fine so long as they are CONSTANTLY monitored for everything they were doing, had the OP been watching at all times what their child was doing he would have been able to stop the purchase from happening.
I agree however that a lot of apps and games can be educational but should always be monitored by an adult.0 -

Given his behaviour, I'm surprised he's allowed unsupervised internet access. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -
My 4 year old son just made a purchase of £32.31 to buy extra lives for Android game he was playing on my mobile phone. He didn't know what he was doing pressing the buttons and I had no idea these games make it so easy to process a transaction. Who in their right mind would spend £32 on buying extra lives for a game??? Fortunately he hasn't used any of the credit he bought and I have asked the game developer for a refund, but does anyone know what consumer rights there are in this instance?
What makes you think that you have any right to make someone else pay for your own lack of responsibility?
You decided to give the phone to a toddler.
You decided to set up your Android account to make automatic payments.
You decided to install a game that has the option for payment credits
You admit that you didn't set the phone to Aircraft mode.
But you also expect somebody else to pay for it when it all goes predictably wrong?
This is why when I get the whingers claiming that their child bid on my eBay item, I always open and unpaid item dispute - either make them pay, or issue a strike. If they can't take a bit of responsibility for their own actions, then I take great pleasure in teaching them a little lesson in consequence.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

Funny how no one ever manages to press the "No thank you" buttons, isn't it?0 -
Slightly agree.. My 2 year old uses my ipad all the time - however he'd need to know my pin (and recognise numbers!) to pay for extra credits in games. I also prefer to leave it in airplane mode when i'm not around. He can use it unsupervised if it's in airplane mode (he likes the piano app)
I don't think it's wrong to expose kids to technology from a young age. BUT, as a parent, it's your absolute responsibility to make sure they don't see bad things or spend your money.0 -

If they pressed the 'no' button there wouldn't be an issue to ask about, would there?0 -

That went completely over your head didn't it! :rotfl:
How did the child know which buttons to press?0 -

You've already been a little flamed for allowing your child what appears to be unsupervised internet access and I fear I may add to that!
I'm not someone who thinks that technology and kids are mutually exclusive but... there's a distinct lack of any sense of responsibility in your post. You had 'no idea these games make it so easy to process a transaction' and you also seem surprised that the transaction was even processed ('Who in their right mind would spend £32 on buying extra lives...?').
The fact is, it's your job to a) police your child's internet access and b) understand your own phone. On the same subject, however, it's not the game provider's job to decide that £32 on extra lives is a silly purchase and they're well within their rights to honour any purchase that's made.
You seem to think that this problem is a combination of a phone that's deliberately easy to make mistakes using and a company that doesn't vet users enough. To my mind the only person I can see who has any responsibility here (but failed to exercise it) is you.
Hopefully, you'll get a good will gesture and some money back. But in terms of consumer rights, you don't have any."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
