trainers for wide feet

I too moved over to "running shoes" rather than ordinary trainers, and they are bliss. I have triangular feet (v wide at the front, narrow at the heel) and find most women's shoes far too narrow. SO, I can thoroughly recommend Nike Darts (think they're on version 9 at the mo), but MEN'S ones, not ladies'. This does mean that if you're smaller than a size 6, the above info will be of no use to you whatsoever ... But do try them if applicable. You can get them for under about £30 from the usual suspects. Do an Amazon search for men's Nike Dart.0

Go to a running shop, take your orthotics with you, chat to the staff and try some shoes on. That's the only way you'll know what's right for you.
I found the staff in Sweat Shop very helpful when I was buying running shoes (I don't have difficult feet, but I am very fussy about shoe colour!!). I wear my old running trainers as normal trainers once they're no good for running any more, I walk miles each day for work so wear them for that and never have any problems. Running shoes are not just for running it seems!0 -

I am wearing a Womens Air Citrus+ 3MSL.
The sole inside is removable.
They are sooo comfy - and I have really wide feet and am difficult to fit normally..
Is that a make or style please and did you buy them in a running shop?0 -
Right, I think what I need is a proper running shop and see what they suggest, I went to Lakeside yesterday but it was all what I call the rubbish shops, fine if you have standard feet, not for me. No running shops so far as I could tell and no New Balance in any of the Sports Direct type shops
So what I need, in conclusion I think is a list of running shops then I can see what is nearest to us in darkest Essex, can alsways go Ipswich, London or Cambridge as dont think anything in Chelmsford
So there is
Runners Need
Run and Become
any more...?
thanks so much for help have been given
I am a size 5 and a half if can get shoes that are wide but usually have to go to 6, but in a mans shoe can get slippage at heel on a six - perhaps a childs shoe (not fussy, too badly affected to be fussy!) Buying shoes or trying too is the most stressful thing in my life and the prob with mail order is that there is absolutely no chance of getting the right thing till you get to about the fifth pair....
Many thanks again for everyones help0 -
I cannot buy anything to fit my feet from local shops so I have to buy online. I have several pairs of DBshoes, they charge £5 per order delivery and have free returns so you could order many pairs to try. Probably not much dearer than petrol and parking costs.0

May I suggest using the yellow pages and ringing around. One tip might be to look for a shop where they have podiatrists coming in. It'll give you a measure of whether they're a high street pile 'em high (which is fine when you've found a brand/size that suits you) or a shop where the staff take one look at your feet (no touching) head into the store room and come back with something that fits like a glove. No mean feat LOL There used to be a woman at Alexandra Sports in Portsmouth who could do this, or was when I used to go there when I was visiting friends (I haven't been there since I became disabled - one of the very few perks of using a wheelchair is that your shoes last longer.)

thank you so much for the list, I shall ring the Chelmsford RunnersWorld tomorrow. The guide you used does not cover Cambridge does it? Am going to see my daughter there at the w/e. Can look in Yellow pages I guess
Its suprising there are not more shops really considering how many people run but I suppose many are quite happy with the average High Street chain and can buy there with confidence if their feet are in no way problematical.
Thanks again0 -
An obvious place to start would be Hobbs Sports but I just had a quick google and also found Up and Running and Advance Performance.
Somewhere else you might like to know about, though not for trainers/running shoes, is dbshoes. Some of their patterns are very 'granny' but not all, I have some lovely boots from there. My feet got to an enormous 8EEEEEE fitting which in high street shops pretty much limits me to boot socks...Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

thank you again Daska - I thought I had the worst feet in the world - mine are prob a ee or eee, I used to wear Hotter, but no good now except they have brought out a EE now so may try in a ordinary lace up
I cannot wear a fashion shoes it is like my feet are made of stones underneath and so spread, and a bunion but have a lovely narrow heel and small ankles not that they do me any good as I hide under very long trousers I buy them so they just touch the floor, am expert at this! Is your problem swelling as there is a limit to how wide feet can get structurally - I am going to see a specialist in LOndon soon as hope surgery may help, I pronate so badly and bunion on left foot now a big problem too. Just shows its not all wrong shoes that give you buniions as havent had a fashion shoe since about 20 years old - thats 45 years ago!!0
