Hi i am in the middle of what has seemed to be a very long process of changing from Tiscali - Talk Talk for my Broadband service and home phone.
I've given Talk Talk my Mac code today and will be cut off very soon  while they sort out the switch - have been quoted 10 - 15 days but have heard horror stories of it taking much longer and have been waiting since December for them to start the process of switching and request the Mac code.
Wondered if it was poss for me to join a dial-up service for the next 2 weeks or however long they take so i don't have to be offline.I would need to set it up now before they cut me off.
Is it possible to have both running and if so any suggestions of the cheapest without a lock-in for a moderate user of a couple of hours a day and often more.
Thanks for any advice :A

huh... who told you 10-15 days? I'm pretty much sure that when using a MAC the downtime is just 5/10 minutes... it's the reason for the MAC system in the first place, otherwise you'd might as well just cancel in full anyway...0

It should be the same day. you usually get a down time of a few hours, and then its all up and running.
Your line has already been activated, and thats the thing that you can wait weeks for. I think someone at talk talk is just confused!0 -
well talk talk said that it would take 10-15 days and Tisacali said that as soon as my code was used by talk talk it would automatically cut me off from them - am assuming there will be a break in service as it's happened to a few people i know who have changed to talk talk - which is why i wonder if i can have dial-up as a reserve
any advice?
thanks0 -
You can definitely use dial-up in the interim period. You could if you wanted use dial-up at the same time as ADSL, just like you can talk while on-line when using broadband. There are plenty dial-up ISP's that you don't have to register with to use their service but it will normally cost you so much per minute depending on your telecoms provider. Cost wise you would have a job to beat this method of using dial-up. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
