Virgin/MBNA Credit Card Closed and Reopened

If I were you I would stay away from Virgin or in particular MBNA.
I've had major problems since they put their interest rates up. I rejected the raise, and have rejigged my finances in order to pay off the credit card. I telephoned to make the payment over the phone, only to find out that they have a limit of £750 per month of card payments over the phone. I had a little more to pay and didn't have access to my internet banking at the time. As soon as I had access to internet banking I phoned and asked what it would cost me to close the account. A nice gentleman gave me a figure promising me faithfully that this would close the account. Lo and behold, a month later, I have received a statement and I owe them £68.38 consisting of unpaid interest and charges as I have cancelled my direct debit. £24 of this is a returned direct debit and a late payment charge.
Faithful promises from MBNA do not seem to be worth a jot. I phoned them today (again costing me money) to find that they can't give me thier complaints procedure, but can promise to get a manager to call me back within the next 48 hours.
Watch this space or is this another empty promise?0
