Who's best, who's worse. It's down to Performance Direct, Sureterm, or Heritage. two are Chauncer, I can't remember who Sureterm use. All the same price to £1. Anyone any experience, good or bad?

Chaucer are the type of Insurer who will try and find ways of not paying a claim, if it's a fire or vandalism claim they're especially picky.

    I would avoid them.

As a rough rule of thumb, people in the industry will tell you to avoid any policies underwritten at Lloyd's for motor Insurance

Ha, thanks for the heads up, that'll be why they're the cheapest! Sureterm are listing the insurer as STE2, I have never heard of them, so I suspect they have that as a code for Chaucer, based on the price. Next one along is Towergate, but they're half as much again. It's not an expensive classic, but I wouldn't like to have to scrap it if anything happened to it. It'll be a question of whether it's worth a claim, which will have to be declared on all the other insurances, if not, the cheapest will be ok for the piece of paper, or if it's worth paying more and actually using it.

Have you tried the Owners Club Insurers.

I believe Raskazz's employers underwrite some classic car policies, they a good company or Aviva who I know you don't like but they Classic Car policy is good, has been around for donkeys years and they have a specific team for classic cars

Adrian Flux are a reputable company - don't know if they do classics tho - I would think so 'cos DH has an american vehicle & they're reasonable. Worth the cost of a call.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

The three I looked at are £98 for the year, Adrian Flux is nearly twice that much, the owners club link to Flux and Footman James, again dearer. So I'm being tempted over to the dark side, and buying cheap, but then I think even though it's not an expensive car, it's worth doing properly. As for Aviva, I still couldn't pay them for insurance, even after 30+ years.

Adrian Flux used to be dearer for our US insurance but then they got more competetive & now they're one of the cheapest. There's also a co called NIG that might be useful?

I thought NIG (part of the RBS group) had pulled out of personal lines business.

I don't think I've had a quote by anyone offering NIG.

Adrian Flux are reckoned to be pretty good.
Footman James not as good as it was, but the James bit who left to set up on his own is very highly regarded, especially for flexibility and understanding.
I can't remember what he trades as, but Google will find him.

Sureterm are offering Enterprise Insurance Group, Gibraltar. Possibly ok if I never intend to claim, or have any dealings with them other than make me legal for a year. I probably wouldn't make a claim on this car myself, it's not worth it for the knock on effect on all the other car policies if I have to declare it for 5 years. More likely a brush, shovel and a low loader later on.
