If so, why have you not followed a very good advice?:Was it not a DD?

    • Please be nice to all MoneySavers : There's no such thing as a stupid question and, even if you disagree, courtesy helps.
    • Please be sensitive : This may be a web forum, but you're still talking to other human beings. Repeatedly or harshly saying someone's wrong, especially on boards like DebtFreeWannabe, Bankruptcy or Benefits, can lead to upset.

We're proud that many people whose financial problems exacerbate mental health issues seek help in the forum, but this means you may be berating someone who's clinically depressed. Please think twice before posting judgmental comments.
we did get our refund after 4 months of fighting. complaint is currently being investigated and DD wasnt cancelled as we were frightened the money wouldn't make it back to the account if the details were gone. don't worry about replying. i wont be back. thank you to those who were willing to help and offer advice with empathy and without judgement

Why the "be nice" quote, no one has been insulting or nasty. A valid question has been asked that you keep ignoring, no one has advocated cancelling the DD.

If a DD is taken in error, you have the right for it to be reversed.

Stop being so defensive, the DD gaurantee could have saved all the problems you are complaining about.
    Direct Debit Guarantee

The Guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that accept instruction to pay Direct Debits

If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit the organisation will notify you (normally 10 working days) in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed. If you request the organisation to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be given to you at the time of the request

If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit, by the organisation or your bank or building society, you are entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society.
