Good afternoon,
Thank you for your recent e-mail discussing your "personalisation" of my Egg card. I was delighted to read that having taken my personal circumstances carefully into account - including your assessment of how I've managed my finances - you've decided to make some changes to my terms and conditions. I was thrilled, in fact, to learn that I was now to receive a personally-tailored set of interest rates that are ideally suited to my situation, and that in my own best interests - if you'll pardon the pun - you've slapped another 5% on the APR for purchases (from 16.9% to 21.9%) and 3% on cash advances (from 22.9% to 25.9%).
I think that was a very considerate and bold move on your part, especially considering you were already charging interest rates some 8% higher than the market leader, so well done you!
In fact, I am so thoroughly overwhelmed with happiness at these new terms and conditions that I would like you, please, to CANCEL MY ACCOUNT, WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT. I do not accept these changes to T's and C's and would thus like to avail myself of my right as a consumer to inform Egg that you've gone completely off your collective trolley if you think I'd ever use my card again after such a ludicrous interest rate rise...
I mean yes, I know, I haven't had a balance on the card since September 2005... but don't you think it might have been just a teensy bit more of an incentive for me to do so again if you'd perhaps LOWERED the interest rate? Call me daft, if you will. I'm no financial expert or anything, and I certainly wouldn't consider myself qualified to set policy for a major institution such as yourselves. It does strike me though that someone in my position, with a zero balance, would need to have a serious cognitive dysfunction before continuing to hold a credit card with you after a rate hike like that.
Do let me know if there's anything I need to sign in order to divest myself of the most singularly worthless piece of rectangular plastic it's my misfortune to own. Otherwise, go right ahead and cancel my account!
Have a nice day,
J

Great fun. Thanks for sharing.
I wonder if they will come back and say you don't own the card, they do - and they'd like it back please?0 -
A brilliant reply which made me chuckle. Thanks for letting us read it :-)0

Glad you liked it... I keep reading these "genuine e-mail to customer services" things that do the rounds and always think: "Well, why not?"
If anything, I'm grateful to Egg for the opportunity! :rotfl:0 -
And as luck would have it, today I received notification of my charges claim against Egg. So stuff em, the balance will be clear this month and the claim is for twice the current balance.
Make an extra couple of pennies from me, coz I am closing the account next month. Blow your anniversay offer coming soon.0 -
Thank you for your recent e-mail discussing your "personalisation" of my Egg card... (etc. etc.)
Just silly. As a thought for the future it's no way to communicate0
