i definatly think The Mirage will suit your requirements very well indeed.
if it was me taking my long time mates (minus wives) over there for the first time with that budget , that would be my first choice, no question.
the Bellagio is very very nice but more the sort of place you take your wife , not your drinking buddies IMO.
Mirage also has the highest quality Poker room in terms of players on the strip, so you can see how good you REALLY are.
all the info you need on poker in vegas is here.
http://www.allvegaspoker.com/but just want to know what we can do there...
you can do whatever you want anywhere, thats the Beauty of Vegas all the atrractions at all the hotels are open to everyone ( unless you are under 21). with a good central location you will have no problems getting to and from all the Other Casinos ect. i would not dream of confining myself just to the hotel i was staying at.
sure the Gun shooting place is off the strip to be honest . Get a free copy of WHATS ON or any other free magazine you see from a taxi or Hotel lobby when you arrive, and you will be able to pick and choose you activitys |(probably with coupon discounts). Grand Canyon Helicopter ride is expensive ( look at £200 each ) but so worth it for that unforgetable experiance.Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
I lurrrrrrve Las Vegas.. (the meadows) I dont gamble but I go with Gambling friends (my usa buddies).. every year.
How about the Luxor? (Biiiig Black Pyramid) Look it up you can find GREAT panoramic views inside it. It has *Inclinators* instead of lifts.. its also has 4555 rooms! (most of the hotels/casinos have ALOT).
The Inclinators move up AND sideways (because of the Pyramid shape)..strange feeling. It also has the worlds brightest beam of light (or something like that) ::: waits to be corrected :: Its a bright bluey coloured beam.. when you stand outside at night by the (3-4 pools).. You can see trillions of moths in the beam. You can see it at night wherever you are in Vegas.. It had to be turned down because it was interferring with the satelites. (so the helicopter pilot told me)
MOST of the hotels there are themed, they are quite amazing..
LOADS of them do FREE entertainment, Like the Carnaval at the RIO.. and the Sirens of TI (Treasure Island) They all do lots to tempt you to come into their casinos instead of elsewhere.. theres LOTS to see and do thats free.
Dont worry if you miss a show (free or otherwise).. they are on over and over.
When you DO get to your hotel.. go to the info desk (where they do all the booking for trips etc. They also know eveything about everything, and if they dont.. they will find out and organise eveything for you. Grab a heap of leaflets from the desk telling you all the things to see and do.
Caesers does free shows too.
The MGM grand has the lions (free too)
You can go to the top of the *Eiffel Tower* at the Paris Casino/hotel.. about $8 i think. If you do it at night you can see a fantastic sight.. and are also above the Bellagio water fountains and can see it all *Birds eye*.
New York New York (hotel casino built to look like the NY skyline).. has a roller coaster.
The Stratosphere tower (which has the worlds four highest rides.. 2 of which have been named the two most terrifying) Word of warning.. do NOT let your friends talk you into going on them at midnight after 2 yards of frozen margarita!
Thats a cheap thing to do too.
Coyote Ugly bar.
Studio 54
Go see the car show at Casaers. Woooooooooooo! For cars we couldnt afford if we had never spent a penny our whole lives!
The Bellagio water fountains are a MUST! They dance perfectly in time to lots of different songs...and at night are breathtaking! (really really)
There is sooo much to do in Las Vegas you wont be bored..
You could go to *Drive* and for $10 drive a FLASHY Hummer around a course and a flashy speedy sports car around a race track. A drive in each for $10! (£5ish) If you plan to do that, make sure you take your driving license or they wont let you do it.
You can book a champagne helicopter flight over Vegas (with Maverick-they have cool wraparound glass under your feet! Headphones to drown out noise for the helicopter, where you can STILL speak to eachother (and the pilot) and have some great adrenaline pumping music in your ears as you fly over Vegas. Go at night! for $70 (£35) its FAB! (you can ask at the desk in your hotel to book this or anything else for you)
Top tip: dont forget to turn the flash on your camera OFF.. or you will blind the pilot when it flashes against the glass.. (and especially dont be stupid enough to do it TWICE! Oops! haha)
Sunset BBQ horse riding in Red Rock canyon with (real!) Cowboys $70.. is EXCELLENT!
The Body Exhibition (the plastinated REAL bodies) is FASICNATING!
The Excalibur does cheap HUUUUUUUUUUUGE Buffets.
Under the Excaliber in what would be I suppose the basement.. (about the size of a sports field!).. they hold the Tournement of Kings.. thats Good fun!.. you all get put into a *Country* as you enter.. and have your own *King*.. there are maidens/wenches that serve you (small) whole cooked chickens, with a crusty roll, and veggies on platters..(you eat with your fingers) Ooo and a goblet of wine..(you can buy other stuff if you'd rather)
You get to watch a show of jousting and horsey skills..fire.. smoke and acrobatics, While you are encouraged (and shown how) to YELL for your King and BOO the other countries Kings. Banging your goblets on the tables etc.. its FUN! thats about $25.. (£13 ish) and i think its around 7pm.
Get a Helicopter (or bus tour) to the Grand Canyon. (Or hire car/s from your hotel and drive, on some of Route 66!.. stop at the Roadkill diner.. *You Kill it we grill it* (Yeeeeash!)
Sing to the Eagles with your mates as you drive through the Nevada/Arizona deserts, (wearing a cowboy hat you bought $15) HOW cool!
Water sports and boat trips on lake Mead. (between Vegas and the Grand Canyon) ..
I THINK its the worlds largest manmade lake.. dont hold me to that tho.. 100 long and 500 miles aorund.. (SOMETHING like that)
You can also go to the Hoover dam from here.. (HUGE.. its was the one in the Superman movie) One side of the dam is Nevada.. and the other is Arizona. (diff time zone too!)
Hire a car/s (CHEAP! from your hotel) and drive through the Mojave Desert to Los Angeles (the city of angels) California (about 4hrs).. Go to see the Stars on the walk of fame. Sunset Boulevard .. the Hollywood sign.. walk down Rodeo drive. Go and watch the roller bladers on the boardwalk thats runs across Santa monica beach..(The pier here is the END of the famous route 66) You'll recognise it from the tv.. See famous peoples houses.. Graumans Chinese theatre, the hands prints in the cement.. and the Kodak theatre (where they do the red carpet/oscars and all that malarky).. Might even be lucky to be there when there is a movie premier on.
Catch the monorail train down town (15mins ish) and hop on the CAT bus into down town Vegas.. (where the Rat pack used to hang out).. The Monorail runs behind LOADS of the Casinos/hotels.. so you can get a day ticket and hop on and off all day if you want.
Binions, The Horseshoe, Golden Nugget and all that are there.. (as are all the famous quicky Vegas wedding chapels) Go there in the evening to see a FAB show in the street where the lights switch off EVERYWHERE and the whole canopy ceiling above you (as long a the WHOLE street.. HUGE!) Becomes a GIIIIIIIANT tv and plays you some brilliant videos and music.
At night there.. there is also loooads of street entertainment. (Vegas doesnt seem to shut ever.. you can do/buy/get just about ANYTHING you want at any time of day or night)
When you gamble in Vegas your drinks are FREEEEEEE!..
So when the waitresses come around, park your bum at a seat (or machine) and look like you are about to play.. Order your drink (she will ask you).. then take your drink and carry on your merry way.. :T
There is sooo much to see and do there.. you MUST try and get to Harrahs open air bar (carnival court) at night.. its a BIG circle and made of metal. Where the *World class Flair barmen* and women are.. Thats where they do all that amazing stuff like setting fire to the bar.. spinning bottles.. (throwing ice across the bar down your top!).. Spectacular juggling booze bottles while walking bare foot on broken bottles etc.. go see it!! (free)
Wear the MOST comfortable shoes you can.. you will walk walk WALK!!! in Vegas.
ermm anyway.. I like Vegas.. can you tell? hahaha..
Back to what you asked.. Ive liked all the places ive stayed there.. (most of them except the Wynn (love too but - expensive!!) The only one I didnt really think was as good as some of the others was the Flamingo.. (Bugsey Segals old place)
Back to the Luxor then haha
Oo and ALSO.. a big group of us go each year.. not all of us pay for a room :: wink :: Its very easy to smuggle an extra person in a *two double bed room* here and there. No one has ever asked or checked. Everything in Vegas is SO huge.. SOO many rooms.. SOOO many people.. they couldnt possibly keep track of everyone. Yanno.. Two check into a room (on arrival).. and three sleep there.
(Oh you can also see top shows like Phantom of the Opera there.. Cirque de Soleil.. Elton John, Celion Dion (her last year there)..and loooads of stuff like that. There are LOOOOOOADS of Nightclubs, Bars restaurants.. also Strip/dance/Gentlemens clubs (if thats your thing)...
Oo and.. Its cheaper NOT to include a weekend. arriving Monday morning and leaving Friday night is the cheapest way we find. (much cheaper) Doesnt sound long, but when you consider just about anything and everything is open to you 24/7 you can cram a heck of alot in that time. At weekends the rooms prices often rocket. Making it vereeee expensive when it doesnt have to be.
Hope that gives you some ideas
I havent mention HALF of it im sure. Theres alot for you to see and do, and info everywhere.
But remember.. *What happens in Vegas.. STAYS in Vegas*... (as EVERYONE that works there will tell you) :rotfl:Very proud of trying to deal with my debts. LBM 04/09

I bet your a right chatterbox in real life too. :rotfl:
Thats a robopost! :T0 -
I would suggest talking to the casinos to see if they will cut you a deal - point out that you are from the British Law Enforcement community celebrating a 40th and you are looking for a deal on FIFTEEN rooms. You will hear the $$ Kerching $$ sounds and you should use that to your advantage.
A nice touch if you play poker would be to hold a Celebratory 40th Birthday poker tourney at a private table for just you and your buddies. (15 players would require 2 tables at first of course) Ask to arrange dealers, great finale perhaps once every one has got their poker up to speed. You could arrange booby prizes for first knocked out etc.
