How many vegans on board?

Hello people, I ma doing alright, but have had a problem with going raw. Turns out I now have a jaw dysfunction due to excessive chewing! To be fair it is truly caused by teeth clenching and grinding, but the pain i am in at the moment was set off by a few weeks of munching on carrots and other raw foods.
Now i am eating soft foods only, fruit smoothies, soups and cooked fruits and some grains (well cooked). Even a banana is too hard to chew unless mushed up like baby food. While I can have raw smoothies and soups, I can't survive on those alone. I am limited as it is.
i loved being raw, but it looks like it is not something i can do now. My jaw will need to be realigned through the use of a splint and I am on heavy going pain relief in the meantime. I am not trying to put people off at all, but it is worth making sure you don't have this problem before you embark on some heavy duty chewing:)
Still doing ok as a soft food vegan tho. thanks goodness for soya yoghurt and guacamole is all i can say!0 -
Awww meg that sounds horrible
Don't forget in the raw food world there are tons of cashew kremes, nut mylks, smooth chocolate puddings, ice kremes/sorbets.........well the list is endless of lovely smooth goodies just omit the base part of a recipe etc
I actually prefer having smoothies and soups most of the time because they are a lot more easier and quicker to prepare than a conventional meal:o

Cheers for that Paul, I think it's like a starch or something. I made some with just milk and flour and they were really sticky and annoying so I added some gram flour (also a starch I think) and it almost sorted out the sticky problem perfectlyHonorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Excellent pancake recipe! I had the most unbelievable pancakes at The Egg Cafe in Liverpool this week, and definitely need to learn how to make them at home - will be giving this a go today.
My office day out has taken a wee turn with my Boss giving me an ultimatum - either I go, or no one does, and attached was a warning that if everyone doesn't sign up for team events, then they're not happening at all in the future and that, presumably, will be my fault. I've said that I think this totally unfair on everyone else, but I guess that is that.
I'm the only female in a team of 9, I don't drink and I hate being around people who are drunk (after having a glass thrown at my head in a bar a few years back). So, being forced to go on a day out with someone who sees this as being a 'boy's day out' and a chance to get bevvied really makes me feel uncomfortable. Add in the wee dig about me being vegan, and I'm really not feeling good about the whole thing. Other team event suggestions have included a day at horse racing, and I don't really want to do that as I find it quite cruel exploiting animals for entertainment, and a day shooting (again, I don't like the idea of being forced to handle a weapon). I think it a fair compromise that where it's against my beliefs, I shouldn't have to go and, believe me, I don't bear any grudges at all against the guys having their day out doing something like that, but for me, I don't want to be part of something that just feels so wrong for me.
You'd think they'd know I wasn't naturally a sociable person after the last time we did something together and I got so stressed with the instructor putting her arms around me showing me how to do the blinking thing that i just snapped and told her to '^&* right off'(my temper and someone in my personal space doesn't go well!)
So much for team building - ether I have to go and spend time with people who are pished, or the cancellation of the whole event is turned onto me. Not fair, and I feel more than a bit singled out for being 'different'Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -
Awww BGB do want me to go in your place for you?? I'll sort them all
I can totally understand where you're coming from, it's not nice being forced to do things you don't have any interest in, for me a night of sitting with a load of women all cooing/whingeing about their OH's or kids and going on and on about makeup and fashion does my head in, aarrrgggg!!!!!!! :rotfl:Oh and I'm right with you on the horseracing too, same as dog racing! I would do the shooting but not at anything live of course.
I guess if it's billed as a team building exercise it's pretty hard to refuse to go? At what point would they be drinking....into the evening? Could you not leave early perhaps?
Different........yes you are, same as me, we don't fit into the normal box, and damn right too, who wants to blindly follow the crowd like a lemmingHonorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. The way it sounds, the drinks will be starting on the train at 9:30 in the morning and carrying on pretty mug for the next 12 hours. I'll be going as I've effectively been blackmailed into it, so I can't see it being much fun. When we initially arranged this, it was a day away together, but one of the guys who was on holiday has came back and talked about his bevy and stuff, and it's clear he sees it as a lads day out rather than just people spending the day together. The last time we had a meal together, this particular individual came out with the memorable line,"I once went to see a stripper in this place where the lighting was so bad you could see very hair on her....." by which point I'd snapped at my boss,"And you expect me to respect that?" pointing at this guy and creating an almighty waft of tumbleweed up the table!
More of that on Friday and I'm getting up and leaving, 3 line whip or not.Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -
Hmm methinks you need to sharpen your tongue more, you missed a nice quip there with something like "And we see why you have to pay for that!"
:D
If you feel belittled by some of them, just belittle them back in a very intelligent way, they'll soon leave you alone :rotfl: I have much experience of it from growing up in very male chauvinistic environments, if you ranted back, burst into tears or relied on your feminine charm you never got any respect, but if you bantered back and came out with absolute peachy classics or where they couldn't neccessarily tell if it was an insult or not, they totally respected you and viewed you as one of the 'gang' as such. They are making it easier for you by drinking so early, you'll be able to rib them and they won't be able to think of a retort fast enough by the afternoon :T:rotfl:Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. I now have a great excuse for not going - a broken hand! :T
My temper is a wonderful thing! One too many sexist jobes at my expense and I took it out on a steel locker.
Guess I'll not be fit for a day away! Woohoo!Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -
