Orange changing early upgrade period....

    If you mean the maximum length of contracts, is it not for new contracts only?

    Section 7.2 means they can't exceed 24 months but it is for an initial commitment terms. 7.64 was to put it to existing contracts too in the way that a upgrade (which is a new contract effectivly) also has a max 24 month initial commitment period.

    I also wonder if it's because any new customer would be contracting to Everything Everywhere now not renewing with Orange, but not sure why it's coming up a lot more now when the Ofcom stuff came into force 12 months ago..

    IMO, section 7.64 is not clear. The "new commitment period" cannot be more than 24 months, but nothing stops it from starting only when the old commitment ends.
    E.g. I upgrade 3 months earlier. The existing commitment gets modified for the remaining months. The new commitment starts in 3 months.

    From memory (so I could be wrong!), certainly for Orange I don't think the system allows you to set a date for a new plan other than 'the next billing period'. So it could just be a systems limitation ?

    It was purely a commercial decision - nothing more. Now if you are in the 45 day upgrade window you don't carry the time over.
    I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

    Possilbly and I think EE thought that too. 7.67 -7.70 covers early upgrades and the spirit is that 24 is the limit even if the text is hard going to read and follow.
