    I see you've tracked down the planning pages too. I suspect, if nothing else, that the publicity that the case attracted (the road looks to my prejudiced eyes as being classic Daily Wail readership!) has sparked defensive support from many neighbours, and perhaps there is one (who clearly hasn't responded with a negative view) who kicked the whole issue off in the first place. Whilst I tend towards the "quite like the look of solar" brigade, I wouldn't get too carried away with the support that this application appears to have gathered from their neighbours and extrapolating that into the population at large; too small a sample to really draw any lessons!

    Just as aside, I've refrained from posting links to the planning application itself; whilst all of the info is in the public domain, and easily locatable via google, I think it would be inappropriate to post a link publicly here, and I would hope that no-one else would either. (Not suggesting you would, Mart, just thought I'd post this thought so my opinion is made before anyone either asks me to or posts a link themselves)

    Oops, I posted it a few days ago. Happy to delete if you think it's inappropriate?

    Edit: I've deleted the link just in case. And also as we've already disclosed the key facts. M.

    Hadn't spotted that! Hey, it's just my opinion, though I presume on reflection you agree!

    FYI, the "Prestwich" case has a target date for a decision on granting retrospective planning permission for 17th May. Perhaps that storm in a teacup will disappear.

    How about a story about solar panels causing a house fire?

    My thoughts were that it was public domain, and the couple had openly sought media attention. But on the other hand ....

    you asked so nicely! :)

    With all the infilling there is these days, many new builds have absolutely shocking views of the mish mash of rear extensions put on older properties. Done in the days when the rear of a property had no relative aesthetic merit in planning permission terms. PV panels are relatively mild in comparison.

    However, in the OP's situation it does seem somewhat curmudgeonly of the neighbours to object to a money/energy saving (but not permanent) change.

    Doncha just love journalism. I'm going out on a limb to imagine that the fire officer actually said "felt"...

    A bit rich to describe it as a solar panel blaze as it was a "DC switch" blaze (less headline grabbing though!)

    Spoilsport - I was enjoying the mental picture of a roof supporting a 'fount' (Synonyms: font - fountain - spring - source - well - wellspring ) and a few dozen long French rolls of bread !
    :rotfl: :rotfl::rotfl:

    No doubt the reporter will blame it all on his spell-checker !

    SPs themselves couldn't catch fire and even if they got very hot it's hard to see how they'd ever ignite roof timbers through a four inch air gap and a layer of slates or tiles.

    Different minds and all that, I went down an alternative mental route, and imagined they lived near a marching band training area, or even a police riot training area, leaving the roof covered in badly thrown batons. Sadly, however, even my unique imagination (feel free to delete and insert insults) could not account for the fount!

    On a more serious note, can't help feeling very sorry for that poor lady. 94 and looking after her son, I hope things have now been sorted for them - or perhaps they are having fun in Butlin's.
