PV install - upset neighbours

So it certainly would appear prudent to at least talk to planning officers.
- if Part 40 PD rights had been specifically removed from your property by an Article 4 direction and you were refused planning permission, I believe that you would then be entitled to ask the LPA for compensation.
I also believe this removal of rights would apply to all other houses in the CA.
So if in a CA you need to check if article 4 applies in your CA.
I'm as yet unsure how the new NPPF ( nation planning framework) effects these issues , but it appear intially to be pro mircogeneration.
Regarding cetifcate of PD , it's a good idea , but seems a con to me to have to pay someone ( planning office) to tell you you're allow to develope without thier approval.
It would be like paying the tax office £100 because you forgot to tell them (on time) you dont owe them any tax!

That statement and the fact that they are generally not allowed in a conservation area if visible from the road, is surely recognition that they appreciate that some people dislike their appearance.
PlusThe reason for bringing up conservation areas, and indeed the Planning Portal, is to make the point that the Government anticipated that some people would not like their appearance - and they were correct. Yet according to some on this thread, that couldn't possibly be the case!
PlusYou are quite right about houses in a conservation area 'generally' being allowed panels on the roof as a PD - but not on the 'front wall'.
"makes the point that the Government anticipated that some people would [STRIKE]not [/STRIKE]like their appearance - and they were correct. Yet according to some on this thread, that couldn't possibly be the case!"
But I might be guilty of using broken logic to create a false argument for my own agenda? Ain't I naughty?
Don't suppose that in future, arguments can be based on sound data, supported by common sense and up to date references?0 -
Well the panels are in
14 Hyundai "black on black" to mitigate visual appearance, sunny boy inverter. First Kw generated last night after commissioning.
So far neighbours seemed surprised, best comment, " they don't look like the council ones", other vociferous neighbour was more than interested when we discussed figures.
Finger crossed !!!!0 -

Sticking my head over the parapet
I hate the look of solar panels and do wonder what they will look like ( let alone preform like ) in 10 /15 years timeVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
Sticking my head over the parapet
I hate the look of solar panels and do wonder what they will look like ( let alone preform like ) in 10 /15 years time
I have a relative who has had solar thermal for over 35 years and it still looks pretty decent as the majority of the units are glass ... I have a greenhouse which is over 25 years old with glass and an aluminium frame which, after the recent rain, doesn't look much different than a new one ... then again, there's our aluminium patio door & our double glazed windows which also look okay at more than double the timescale you mention ....
Anyway, I don't really follow the rational of using so emotive a word as 'hate' ? ..... I'd probably use that word if someone suggested building, or actually built, an eyesore of a massive warehouse/factory/towerblock behind my house because it would dominate the area and provide a significant visual impact on ourselves and many others in the locality, however, changing the colour of a roofline which has very little(/absolutely no) impact on anyone in the area is definately completely different, even if you have a negative viewpoint ...... is there a particular reason for this position which you would care to explain ? ...

It would be interesting to know which company did the installation as it seems to be more of an issue with the electrics than the solar panels!Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
Renewables Solution Team at Bolton.
Overall very pleased but had a few traumas en-route.
Initial measurements wrong - 15 panels wouldn't fit as originally envisaged, ended up with 14, but these do actually look better.
Damaged a brick drilling from house to outside for cable, I had a spare so that was replaced without argument
Electrician drilled thorough armoured cable to garage. Not impressed but it was quickly repaired and wall replastered so no long term effect.
In fairness they were on time, replaced a number of damaged tiles on the roof whilst they were up there and took great care to ensure all the panels were neatly lined up Cleaned up properly afterwards even to relaying insulation in loft.
Would I use them again, yes but with the proviso that as on this occasion I was present to supervise.
Yesterday was the first day - generated 19Kw
This morning got netbook to talk to Sunny Boy inverter via bluetooth which gives an interesting insight into what is happening0
