BAA Parking scam

I'm due to fly from Stansted for a long weekend. I will need parking for just short of 4 days. I was about to book the BAA short term car park on the BAA Advance website which has a quote of £56. (Time will be tight because I will be coming from work so didn't want to risk the long/mid stay).

I was about to confirm my booking when I thought I'd better check the T&Cs.

This is what it says:
"Car parks are priced per 24 hour period or part thereof. Prices are subject to change. Quotes are valid at the time of booking only. The number of “days” (24 hour periods) charged for when you pre-book is calculated on the basis of the times you select when making your booking. However, if your actual entry and exit time changes from that specified in your booking and as a result your actual time in the car park runs into another 24 hour period over and above that booked, you will be liable for an additional day’s charge at the drive-up tariff" [my emphasis]

Now the drive up tariff is not shown anywhere on the BAA Advance website (probably deliberately). To find out you have to go to a different BAA website but the drive up tariff is a whopping £32 per day. So if my flight is delayed by a couple of hours and tip me into the next 24 hour period, or I have to queue excessively for baggage or to get through passport checks, that is what I would have to pay by way of "penalty".

Something to bear in mind if you are considering BAA.

The same applies to other BAA car parks, eg the mid stay might cost around £6 per day for a fortnight if you book in advance, but if you are delayed and tip over into another 24 hour period you would have to stump up another £15.

Stansted is my local airport nut I never use the Short Term parking as it is so expensive. Even if I go away for 1-2 days I'll use the Long Stay (or sometimes the Mid-stay depending on the offers available).

...I should add that I did call BAA's helpline to confirm that my understanding is correct and they told me that it was.

In my experience of BAA Heathrow carparks, if you book an advance rate and overstay, they charge the extra also at the reduced rate.
