Most people would know that it meant alcoholic drinks.

Even if true, that's hardly the point. You should say what you mean, not say something else on the (possibly invalid) assumption that people are going to ignore it and substitute some understanding of their own.

And, even if 'most' people would know you meant something other than what you said, why risk alienating those of your customers who wouldn't?

Putting up a sign that says one thing when you mean something else is idiotic.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.

I don't see why a restaurant would allow people to bring there own soft drinks when they make money drinks.

Sugarvine is a site that reviews restaurants, and I've often checked it out when considering a booking at a restaurant I hadn't visited before.

Last week we went to an Indian restaurant which advertised a Bring Your Own policy, so as it was a Sunday afternoon buffet we didn't want alcohol so took soft drinks with us.

The waiter said we were not allowed to have our own soft drinks, only alcohol, and if we wanted soft drinks we'd have to buy it from them.

We reluctantly purchased water, but at several points during the meal, the manager came over to check we were not having our own soft drinks!

The meal was at best adequate anyway and the restaurant was deserted.

So I wrote a review for Sugarvine mentioning the soft drinks issue and that the food wasn't very good. Got an email back saying they don't use negative reviews as they could be from disgruntled ex employees of the restaurant in question!

I think this completely discredits Sugarvine as a review site if only positive reviews are selected for inclusion on the website, and won't bother consulting it again!

I agree with you, I submitted a negative review for a Chinese place in Manchester and mine got rejected for the same reason. What's the point in a review site if you can only say good things! I like you will not be using that site again.
I'm sure this site makes me spend more than I save

That's my point, you can't rely on sugarvine to provide unbiased reviews of restaurants if they only show the positive ones!
