Could the op edit the first post as it is contradictory. It says caters allowance claimed in aug 2011 (as we had not seen her for xxx amount of time). Then later it says after not speaking for 8 months (aug to now is 8 months). Do when did the caring actually take place?
Why encourage someone to edit when there are obvious contradictions in the story?0 -

Back in august 2011 i was asked by my mother in law to claim carers allowence for her as we had not seen her for years and she told me to put the money towards thing for my three girls as she had not seen them for so long, she suffers from back problems and is in my oppinion an alcholic.
I was paid back dated monies in the sum of £ 600 , after 8 months of not speaking to her due to her drink problems she is demanding i give her the money back as she cant live i dont have the money to return to her and im worried she could get me in trouble, i cancelled the clain 2 weeks after is was opened as she didnt want money taken out of her benefits, so the only payment i recieved was the back dated money.
Any help would be greatly appretiated as i really dont know what to do, she can be very underhanded and i dont want her to get me and my family in any trouble,
thank you x
Just in case the OP decides to edit. She does say very clearly that the claim was backdated for a period when she didn't see her mother.0 -
The OP could have made contact May or June (having not seen her for years) and started caring for her, and then in August, whilst things were still going well and the MiL had been seeing the grandchildren. The MiL found out she could claim CA for the backdated period and going forward... A claim was made and as soon as it became apparent this meant a deduction from MiL benefits she was ordered to stop. Probably because the MiL was asked to repay the 3 months SDP which AFAIK would equate to £600. This would have been the cause of the 8 months not speaking to each other.
She has probably got a deduction now on her benefits maybe £10 per week or what ever to repay the £600 maybe taking 14 months which she is now 8 months into.
What I don't understand is if the caring had already been done for 3 months without expectation of being paid for the caring, i,e, it was done altruistically, then later in August, an agreement was made "claim carers allowance and put the money towards the children" -and everyone was blissfully unaware that this would mean an equal loss on MiL benefits- Why, when this payment was made and it was discovered that there would be an equal loss to MiL benefits was the the £600 not returned immediately? Afterall the work had been done not in expectation of payment, and it had put the MiL into debt......0
