Yes, wine is one of the most expensive items in Thailand as it's all imported

Its only been in the recent few years but Thailand has some of its own apparantly good wines, personally I dont drink but do a little reseach before travel and maybe try some.

Someone mentioned Pattaya apart from anything else about the place I would not let my dog swim in the sea there never mind my children.

We nearly always travel direct with EVA, generally the cheapest direct service but maybe Thai will have some offers on their new A380 whenever that starts in 2013.

    Huh? What?

What are you saying now? You wrote first of RyanAir cancelling the flight.
You are covered under the EU directive in that case.

As to Ryanair delaying the flight....there are many hours between the flights, so it would have to be a mighty delay to scupper the plans.

So if you know there is going to be a five hour delay or some such, refund that ticket and buy another with EasyJet or WizzAir. It is not advanced algebra.

If you were the nervous type, then you could book with WizzAir and default to Easyjet if it went pear-shaped.

If you've already checked in with Qatar online, you only need an hour anyway and I'm sure the Hungarian airport is not the busiest...

This is all worst case scenario of course.

Cover under the EU directive would be a fixed sum of money, and nothing like enough to buy a last-minute ticket all the way to Thailand. Not to mention the fact that Ryanair (or whoever) would argue about it, and certainly not come up with the money for weeks. So you would need plenty of available credit in order to continue your journey.

Yes: of course there are other airlines. Do remember that adverse weather conditions or problems with air traffic control would affect all of them (and in this scenario no compensation would be payable either). And it is entirely possible that none of the airlines flying at the right time would have enough empty seats for the family in question.

All in all, this bright idea would be great for anyone who fancied spending a day or so in Budapest on the way to Thailand, but allowing a gap between flights of less than 24 hours would mean taking a fairly hefty risk.

Not sure where this is , but about 20km south of Pattaya off Sukhumvit, near Khao Chee Chan Buddha image, (largest Buddha image in world...made of gold leaf and engraved into mountain), there is a lovely vineyard called I think Silverlake. Stunning...Also held a big music fest a few months ago. Great place as it has the Khao Chee Chan, Silverlake vineyard and another fantastic temple called Wat Yannasangwararam...Can easy spend the full day for a nice day out.

If Ryanair cancel the flight, you only need to buy another flight to Budapest....

You scenario is just nonsense, especially since the flights were for up to the 6th of June. Adverse weather conditions?

    Families.....?

Remember that my reply was to shaunskankdog in reply to
I flew LGW - KUL return for £280 with Air Asia but they have now cancelled that and the Paris route. Only way you will get £350 flights now is with Egypt Air really...

No one wrote that it was a catch-all.

You need to get out more, that was one seriously boring post.
I know many people who have booked the flights and none have experienced your worst case scenario.

The worst I've heard so far was that the Ryanair flight was delayed an hour.

Back to Thailand - the place you go should also depend on the time of year. We went to Koh Samui in August because the Phuket side is rainy at that time of year.
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

Friend was delayed eight hours with them recently. Wasn't happy at all.

No need for the abuse: my post is nothing like as boring as losing a holiday because of a problem with a flight connection would be.

For what it's worth, my only Ryanair flight was delayed by 24 hours, and no flights were available with other carriers (air traffic control problems on the way). And I experienced a three-hour delay caused by adverse weather conditions in Paris last July, so these things can happen at any point in the year.

You began by claiming that insurance would cover the kind of failure of connections I warned about. You did not accept my invitation to post details of any company that offers such cover (not usually available); instead you chose to claim that it would be covered by EU compensation. When I explained why this did not give satisfactory protection, you decided to describe my explanation as "nonsense". Perhaps it is time to recognise that you really don't know what you are talking about, and should learn a little from experienced travellers before you presume to give advice.

I'm sorry, but I do find you terribly boring.

First of all having to discuss a long gone flight deal.

Secondly you moving the goalpost from delayed to cancelled.

I used to have an insurance policy that covered these delays and cancellations, £250 per day. With my MBNA CC. Came in useful for a Ryanair flight many moons ago.

The EU compensation scheme does offer adequate compensation.
But again you move the goalposts to it including a new flight to Thailand, not limiting it to Budapest.

Lastly, my reply was directed to shaunskankdog, not yourself about a past deal of which many have partaken with no negative feedback.

So why am I having to discuss this now impossible scenario with you?

    Sorry, but boring, boring, boring.

Especially with you now banging on about being experienced traveller.

Save me from this crashing bore.

I have been travelling unencumbered for more than twenty years.
So I don't need to listen to your silly scenarios. I have it covered.
