Family holiday to Thailand

I don't bother with malaria treatments for Thailand. Malaria is only really a problem in the remote area - Bangkok and the main resorts are fine. You may also find that the tablets have some nasty side affects. Still, you ought to talk to a medical professional.
You will really need some ant-mozzie spay/cream though as the little sods are everywhere - though they like the taste of some people more than others. Some get eaten to death, others are left untouched.
In terms of flights, I too prefer to go indirect as it's cheaper (up to £300 each) and you get to stretch your legs for a couple of hours at the half way point (Emirates via Dubai are excellent and go from regional UK airports but there are loads of stopover options). However if travelling with young children, the stopover may be too disruptive for them and you may prefer to fly direct (have a look at Eva Air, who are usually cheaper than BA or Thai on direct flights from Heathrow)0 -

Visa rules changed fairly recently, so the stamp they give you when you arrive at the airport may not be for a full month. Check with your airline when you are ready to book.
Can you expand on these changes - I thought they only affected people from the Middle East
any links?0 -
The Eva Air point is a good one but recently they have reduced their flights to Thailand
One thing I will say is that a mate and I have been upgraded twice (on the way out only)
The trick is not to reserve your seats before check in - it is unlikely they will have 2 seats together and upgrade you - especially a family of 4 people - it works sometimes - not guaranteed0 -
People quote £300 flights - can we see some examples as far as I knew the taxes were this much if not more0

When I quoted £300 I meant that going indirect can be £300 cheaper than direct - say £500 compared to £800. I haven't seen a £300 fare to Bangkok for many years. In terms of the total cost of your trip, that's a significant difference.0 -

Fair enough
My flights direct with Thai Airways generally cost between £580 and £750 - one thing I will say sometimes their flights are reduced in price on a Thursday and Saturday evening between 10pm and midnight and the next day they go back up again0 -

If you can get a direct flight for £580 then that's an excellent price.0 -

I flew LGW - KUL return for £280 with Air Asia but they have now cancelled that and the Paris route. Only way you will get £350 flights now is with Egypt Air really, but via Milan or Rome, and I think Brussels and Madrid...not sure though...oh and Kuwait do ok too but both are "dry" so no alcohol.
I also flew Man - Bkk return two years ago with fabulous Singapore Airlines for £350... Amazing. But I was totally flexible with days etc.
I would not recommend Thailand Jul-Oct really due to the monsoon season, but you might get lucky. I was there in Jan-Feb-Mar and only saw about two days of heavy rain. Rest of time it was clear blue and low 90s...bliss.
Enjoy amazing Thailand.0 -

Not quite correct. You just missed a deal with Qatar, for £250 return. The catch was that you flew out of Budapest and back into London or Manchester. A one way flight to Budapest was anything from £35 to £78 with Ryanair or WizzAir.
So total price from £285 dependent on luggage and seat reservation....but you had to book by the 19th of April.0
