Hi guys,
Can anyone help me out with this one.

I'm looking into buying a gps tracker for my car, but all the ones I see for sale on fl**** say u must use a 2G PAYG card in them.

U can't use a 3G card, does anyone know where is the best place to get a 2G PAYG card from these days?

Many thanks

I'm not sure such a thing exists. The card just has the seriel number and some cryptology stuff in it, it's the handset that chooses 2G or 3G alluming you have coverage and that your network account lets you have 3g coverage.

Agreed. I don't see why a normal 3G sim wouldn't work in a 2G GPS device. 3G sims work just fine in 2G phones.

That's a sweeping generalization. The cards are electrically compatible but because of implementation differences there are ( generally older) devices which will not work with a 3G Sim.

It's best to speak to the manufacturer of the tracker about what specific type of Sim they recommend.

In the early days of 3G, most Orange PAYG SIM cards were 2G-only and wouldn't log on to Orange's 3G network in a 3G phone; they would only log on to Orange's 2G network. On PAYG, Orange were making it difficult to obtain 3G SIM cards (USIMs) in the same way that they do currently for microSIMs. There is indeed a difference between 2G and 3G SIM cards, but I don't believe any network still issues 2G SIM cards. I probably have some in a drawer somewhere.
