When I first bought my current house I used to get court summonses & debt collectors & Bailiffs turning up for someone who as far as I can tell never lived here so this would have allowed them to just force their way in & take my stuff (I actually had stuff back then) to settle his debt. I wrote to what passes for my MP about this twice but haven't heard anything back so I've signed the petiton as well.0

Having read the petition it doesn't make sense. Bailliffs already have the power to break in, eg to collect fines and unpaid taxes.0
-
But at the moment they are not allowed to physically restrain a person and as you point out they already have enough powers. So why do they need more?0

Signed it.

How many Police man hours are going to be wasted after recieving calls from people who think they have been burgled?
Who is responsible for 'making good' after the break in?
What happens to the little old lady with the bad heart who is ill in bed and can't get to the door?
How would any man react if he arrived home to see a stranger (man or woman) 'physically restraining' his wife?
Somewhere along the line this will result in the loss of a life - either debtor or Bailiff. I foresee the 'Tony Martin' scenario many times over.

Almost doubled this week. But more people still need to sign to stop giving bailiffs more powers.
