1.4 with 100bhp? Is this the turbo engine?

The turbo version comes in 120 or 137bhp variants.

i have estimated it on when i got car fuel light flashing (empty) put £35 in it then when it flashed again done my readings.

Meaningless. On my car, the difference in doing that can be two or three gallons depending on whether I'm parked on the left or the right of the road or facing uphill or downhill.

The only true way to do it is to brim the tank to the second click, do a couple of hundred miles then brim the tank to the second click ON THE SAME PETROL PUMP - I fill up at Shell and once filled up at Tesco which got more fuel in the tank before the pump clicked.

been back to dealers and spoke to the manager. he said no point in getting it checked out as if there was a fault it would be displayed on dashboard. and also not to expect much more improvement on mpg as they are quite heavy on fuel . i also spoke to a salesperson and they said they only get 28-30 mpg out of theirs

Sounds about right for vauxhall customer service... They could be slightly correct though. My auntie has the new corsa with the same 1.4 engine and her fuel economy isn't the best (Although she gets mid to high 30s) and the Corsa is far lighter.

    Corsa
    1122 kg

    Meriva
    1285 kg

We have the same car on Motabilty and, as a bit of a guess, it is achieving about 30 miles per gallon but, as I type, it has 497 miles on the clock and, if I could be bothered to work it out, it would be too early to assess true fuel economy.

We got the Meriva for ease of access as that was important to us but compared to previous Motability cars, typically a 1600cc Astra it is an absolute shed and whoever thought of putting cruise control into a pretty large vehicle with a pretty small engine seriously needs a sense of humour transplant.

On balance I have to say that the Meriva is the right choice for us but mpg is not important to us. We will have the car for 3 years and it is unlikely that it will exceed 10,000 miles in that time.

If mpg is important to you then, quite frankly, you made the wrong choice in choosing a Meriva. You should have chosen something a lot smaller.

Or something of a similar size with a bigger engine. a 1.6 or 1.8 lump in a car of this size would deliver better mpg.
