Is there any rule that says.....

I can't show a pm on site?

  • Hi CPU

As long as you've checked with the person who sent it to you and they don't mind it's fine. :)
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

Not really but as a pm stands for private message, it probably should remain private. However, if its an abusive pm I would email it through to abuse to deal with as abuse deals with abuse throughout the site.

    Hope this helps.;)

Thank you. I haven't asked the person as it's a very nasty pm and I just wanted others to be aware that replying to this poster might earn them some abuse.

I'll assume that it's not allowed then as I don't have permision.

Technically any message that you write comes under your copyright. If anyone wants to quote you publicly they should ask your permission first. The same if you want to publish someone elses message.

I think I read that when we join the forums we agree that the copyright of our messages in here become Martins property. I don't know if this extends to PMs.

There is a type of exemption on copyright. I think it's called 'fair use'. This is where can you quote somebody else without asking (as long as it's in context with the discussion). You are meant to provide the source of your quote though, or a link to it if it's on the net.

Each site may have their own rules on this type of thing. Far better for one of the team to answer this as they know exactly where they stand on it.

I think I would answer 'why you posting it' if its due to an abuse then the best thing would simply to forward it to the abcons and let them deal with it :)

    Thanks.

I wasn't so much interested in reporting as such, I'm big enough to take it in my stride. I just wanted to warn others that they may be leaving themselves open to abuse if what they wrote wasn't liked by a particular poster, who seems to have a penchant for being nasty. I thought if this person thought the drivel they wrote could be seen by everyone, it might make them think twice about writing such rubbish. No worries.

Thanks for asking this question, its something that i've wondered about myself and never thought to ask

At least ive now got the answer tho lol, having said that, your wiser than I cos i'd have just posted it anyway if I'd have received a very nasty or abusive pm from someone (but then ive always been a rebel) lol, i'd have wanted to show them up for what they where too, now i know i'll have to ask for permission to post anything like that if I were ever to recieve such a pm in future or risk having my hands slapped or even banned  ;):D

Like you i'm not really the reporting type and since ive never received anything that as caused me any upset or concern previously its not been an issue but its always an idea to know the best course of action for future :D:D
Nobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission ;)

Would there be anything wrong though in saying in the thread something like

Thank x but I would appreciate it if you refrained from sending me abusive drivel as I don't think its in the spirit of this site.

That way we all know who the nasty so and so is.

I would prefer to make up my own mind about a person, but i wouldnt hesitate reporting a pm to the abuse team.
