PPI How Far Back is Possible please?

Why only six years is or seems to be the guideline to go back.
Data protection act and what has become the accepted norm. Plus, FSA guidance to firms that 6 years is the suitable term.If you were sold PPI in 2006 and that was done incorrectly then if you were sold PPI in the 1980s it was still done incorrectly
How would 2006 rules apply to 1980s cases? Regulation started in 2005. A lot of the things you do today when setting up insurance you didnt do in 2005 and certainly didnt do in the 1980s.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I was in bank(LTSB) yesterday sorting money out due to being made redundent last week. She asked me about ppi and i told her i had aloan years ago (1996),i explained to her when i phoned the line 2 months ago they informed me there records could not go back that far and that was that.
The lady then opened up my records and gave me the a/c of the loan number the acount came out of the date it started(1996) and also informed me the loan was topped up twice and finished paying for it in 2001.(Took her 2 mins)She was very helpful but could do nothing else and gave me this info and told me to phone the ppi line.
Two questions ,
Should the bank ppi line infomed me of this 2 months ago.
What are my chance of claiming this back.(i did pay ppi)
(sorry i might have posted this wrong section)
Thanks0 -

Regardless, if you'd borrowed £500 in 1980 and failed to pay it back, the interest would still be mounting and you'd probably be bankrupt!0 -

Hi, Sorry have another question.
In the reply from our bank this statement was made, Quote:- "however this will only provide you with account numbers for accounts that you have held with ourselves" (This in response to the SAR letter we sent.)
My question is "If the bank can provide you with account numbers then this would suggest that the information from these accounts should also be available otherwise why hold the account numbers"?
Thank You

See what comes back, you may be pleasantly surprised (or not).
Do keep in mind that this was always going to be an uphill battle for very old loans for which you have no documentation.0 -
Hi, Sorry to drag this back up again but I paid the £10 and have now received a letter with two A/C numbers that I no longer see in my on-line banking access. Not exactly sure what I should now do as I searched the net to find out how I can access these old A/C's but came up blank.
I should mention as I do not live in the UK I cannot go to the local branch of Clydesdale bank.
Any help please?
Many Thanks in advance

If you had PPI, you now have the account numbers to make the claim.0

You could ring the Bank (from anywhere in the world) and ask them to check if the account numbers in question had PPI attached to them. If the Bank confirm that they did, you then only need valid complaint reasons for the payment protection being mis-sold.
Do be aware, though, that if the loans are very old, you can expect the Bank to refuse to pay out redress, even if they actually uphold any complaint, unless you can provide evidence of payment in the form of statements from the time.0 -
Like to thank everyone who has replied to my OP
I have sent to the bank now we wait!!!
