Unicom Complaints

Hi, I have a Unicom contract in front of me, and the small print says: "This Agreement will remain in force:
(c) until the Customer...ceases of threatens to cease to carry on business.."
I understand you have liquidated your business or certainly ceased trading since you have sold it to someone else, so under their own terms, the contract is null and void.
You have also satisfied their other termination terms by advising them that you are ceasing trading and requesting that your service be ceased.
Of course, you may not have a recent Contract, but it seems to me that they are simply trying it on and they have no grounds for enforcing any termination fee if you have indeed informed them you have ceased trading - that's in their own words!
Incidentally, any court is going to take a dim view of them waiting a year to contact you with this issue, plus you may not even have a contract with them in the first place as you did it over the phone, so their case is weak to start with.
So if I were you, I would send them a letter informing them of this and telling them "see you in Court". I doubt they would be able to do anything more, though you may of course still get the occasional letter which I suggest you ignore.0 -
I know my 'Anniversary' date (6/Aug/2013/ to cancel my contract do i inform Unicom anytime from now or do I have to wait for the 3 month 'window'0
-
Depends on the terms as stated. They may be unwilling to accept any correspondence regarding notice (which is why they have a 'window') and since you cannot leave any earlier, just play their game to ensure your exit is painless, AND double check you've done it correctly!0

And do it by recorded delivery so you have some evidence. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I was just about to apply for a job with Unicom on the sales side. Think I'll pass on that one now.0

Ive just signed up to Unicom, when my first bill arrived it was £47. More than it should be on rental charges. When the sales rep came to see me he advised of costs and said that I would be making a saving. I phone company who weren't the slightest bit helpful, and we're quite abusive. The sales rep phoned the company to perform a line check so he could note what I would be charged, the answer being two and hence signed up to the 3 yr contract. I have since phone the sales rep and he confirmed that i am being overcharged, and that the contract should be void. I wrote to the company who have denied the line check and the charges originally quoted and say the contract isnt void. The sales rep and myself have no doubt that the contact has been Mis Sold. The sales rep has stated he will back me up fully.
A Stern word of warning. DO NOT TAKE OUT A CONTRACT WITH UNICOM.:mad:0 -

Last week I made an agreement over the phone (with Unicom) to continue our existing contract for 12 months - absolutely explicitely 12 months. A few days later I received written confirmation of the new three year contract. So simple yet so effective. [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]0

had third threat to take me to court over changing telephone supplier.
has anyone actualy been taken to court by this scum of a company
or do they just rely on threats.
i sighned nothing ,had no contract, and intro phone conversation
made no reference to atrocious cancellation fees,
need to know quickly.
STAY CLEAR OF UNICOM0 -
You had a contract, and you had no need to sign anything. Your payment for service is taken as agreement of all T&C's at the time. The cancellation fees need to be shown as part of their Tariff (Price List). They don't need to tell you, the expectation is the consumer needs to check these things out for themselves
As for taking you to court, whether they do or don't will depend on their policy and belief of success.0
