Only need SIm, get handset to sell?
Hi All
My contracts up at the end of the month. I recently got a Sensation from HTC as they damaged my old phone when repairing!
Sensation is fine for me at the moment but I am looking at getting a new contract and have choices:
1. Free after cashback with rubbish phone or just SIM.
2. Get decent or really good phone with some to pay each month and flog the handset.
Any advice or pointers to good deals greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Take out a sim only plan and unlock the handset. Not being tied down to a 24 month contract is amazing, and if a phone comes along that you want you only need about 4 weeks notice to cancel the sims monthly rolling plan. I was with O2 but had rubbish signal so moved to orange, if they were bad I could move again with no contract.
I have an iPhone 4, am simply sim only'ing' it until the iPhone 5 comes out.
Also, you get much more for your monthly payment if as you aren't paying for a handset.0 -
you can get the Htc One X relitively cheap with a decent amount of minutes... it is the new "flagship" phone from Htc which means £400+ on ebay.
failing that you could get a cheaper sim only with free tv or dvd player ect... but in my eyes i see a shiney new phone selling better resulting in a nice quick profit0 -

Wher can I find such a deal please?;)0 -
Bird in hand!
I don't know your personal circumstances - or need to know - but this forum is littered with people who took out expensive contracts when times were good and now find, now that times ain't so good, that they are having difficulties in paying back the millstone that is their contract.
Stay free. Buy a handset you need when the HTC gives up the ghost and remember what you really need it for.

I would work out the simplicity sim only cost and the contract+phone cost over the same period.
Then see if the difference is greater than the expected sale proceeds of the handset.
For example, there's no point in paying an extra £20 a month for 2 years (£480) if the ebay sale is likely to only raise £300...0 -
I am looking to do a cashback (by redemption) deal, so doesn't have to be a new flagship type model, just one that I can sell on at a decent price.
The other option is just to get a basic phone and pay next to nothing per month after cash back.
The way I see it is if I can get a phone valued £3-400 that I can sell and the contract (after cashback - redemption & Quidco) is about the same it is a bit like an interest fee loan paid monthly over the 18 months with the bonus of the minutes etc!
Last option I've just thought of, could sell my Sensation via 2nd hand site and get a newer better phone, Oh decisions decisions!0 -
thought i'd give O2 retentions a try, what a joke!
4s - £41.month 800 mins, unltd SMS, 750mb & £10.40 for handset!
Galaxy s2 - More expensive than the 4s, told her not to bother!
HTC One X - £46/month 600 mins, unltd SMS, 1g & £60 handset!
HTC One S - Same as One X but handset free!
All are 18 month contracts.
Offered Simplicity for £16.50/month, 600 mins, unltd SMS, 500mb.
Only good thing was that I found out I can now port O2 to O2 with my PAC code!0 -
Me too, but I'll be staying on SIM-only and will pay full price for the iPhone 5. It works out cheaper overall to do this.
Thanks but i'm a droid fan, don't like Apple (co. not the products - no experience of products, too expensive)! Only way i'd get the 4s,5, 6 . . . . . . is to sell it on i'm afraid!0 -
Now I need to find a decent contract and at as low a price as possible with a good phone that still has a decent resale value! Needle in a haystack?
Any phone suggestions?0
