  • Hi there

    Just a note on Hurst.

I just bought a car of Charles Hurst last month - second hand, and traded in my car. I got it at a much cheaper deal than going private and got a respectable price for my trade in.
The washer pump was away in it the day I got the car, they replaced it the following week. Car going well and has low miles. I searched private and at aother dealers and the same car with 50k more miles was the same price.

Hurst have given me a 6 month warranty.

I heard all the scare stories too about Hurst and questioned them on it - they said they stand by all sales and sell 200 cars a week with very few complaints. They have a process for complaints and I was given the Operations directors name.

My wife got her bmw serviced last week with them and put through the MOT, she was very happy with service and price.

At the minute I am more than happy - car going well and it looks and feels well. I got Hurst to give me a HPI damage report as well.

Sometimes cars are funny - guy sits opposite me in work had a Mitsubshi - 4 year warranty -1 week after the warranty the engine blew... he's out 3k. Sometimes there is nothing you can do.

Always take a mechanic or friend who knows something about cars, one can check the car out wheile the other distracts the salesman. As long as its been well serviced and timing belt etc has been changed it should be ok.
  • +1 for Hurst. I bought 2 cars from them at their first time buyers centre this year - I'm not a first time buyer, BTW. Everything on that site is <5k, and that was the budget I was working to.
There aren't many places on Boucher where you can get something below that money...
There was some touch up work needed to be done on both vehicles that was seen to before I picked them up.
    Cheers,

We use Howard Abraham - Peugeot. They have showrooms in town as well as in Craigavon. Our contact is Gordy Rowland in the Craigavon showroom. Excellent big chap. We have no complaints.

My next door neighbour uses Ballylisk Car Sales and has done for 30 years. He's just got another Fiesta and is delighted with it.

My mother and brother use Charles Hurst and are both very unhappy with the last deals they did. They won't be going back.

A vote for MH Motors on the Antrim line , https://www.mhmotorsltd.com/‎
Newtownabbey. Recently bought a little car for my daughter, good price. Wipers played up & he replace the wiper motor within days of being advised.
Seemed very professional, with a good range of small cars. They have been there a long time & have a good local reputation. I haven't bought of Hursts for years - too dear & too pushy. Had to use them for a 2 year service recently- they tried to insist & I needed new brake discs as well as pads. The car only had 20k miles on it. I took it to a brake specialist - very concerned that the discs needed replaced at such low mileage. He said that all was fine & that the discs probably need looked at about 40- 50k miles. I felt that Hurst were trying pull a fast one on a woman.

Can recommend saltmarine, have bought 2 cars from there including one for Sil in past year, keith lowry was salesman I dealt with both times although im sure they are all similar. He done a very fair deal both times including advising Sil to sell her own car private to get a better price rather than trade it in,(and she did).

Shelbourne and Satmarine are one and the same. Brilliant service, and you can haggle with them a bit. But they do a really good job.

Both have certainly been around for a long time. I've heard nothing bad about either; they seem to care about reputation.

I may have said this before - I had a car in with Charles Hurst Nissan who told me that the CV boot needed to be replaced (big bit of rubber that covers up a joint). I booked this work amongst others at Shelbourne Nissan Portadown. I got a call from them saying that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the boot. The could quite easily have just done it. Never replaced the boot in 3 years of ownership.

Would never go near Hursts again, you pay £90 an hour labour for some apprentice to work on your motor......AVOID

Any dealer will bend over backwards when a motor is under warranty, they change their tune when the warranty is up, then you pay through the nose..........not very MSE!
  • I'd recommend Donnelly and Taggart Toyota in Campsie. I've bought 3 cars from them and always received excellent service from them. I've bought from Micheal Nutt, Paul McCorkill, and Tanya, and Colin Balfour did the finance, all of them are very nice. All the team there are lovely, and every time I leave my car in for servicing its always returned spotlessly clean.

Wouldn't go near Eakin Bros Maydown. I had a new car from them one time and it had faults, they couldn't fix it even after many attempts. Rude staff who didn't know their products.

I bought a car off Browne and Day Ford in Claudy many years ago and was happy enough with them but haven't been there in a long time. I got a KA but didn't keep it long, I didn't like it so traded it in for my first Toyota.

Halliday Citroen Campsie were trying to pull a fast one with their pricing, so I soon went out the door and didn't buy.

No experience of John Mullhollands or Todds in Campsie.
