How much do you pay a babysitter?

I used to do a lot of baby sitting when i was a teenager. I think i used to get about £10 or a fiver if it was for a very short time (driving lessons etc)
I have no idea what i would pay someone, so far i have only ever used friends and family so it has been free.
10 years ago i used to babysit in a hotel it was great. £8 per hour before 12 and £13 per hour afterwards plus my cab fare home(I only lived across the road lol). Occasionally the parents would invite for dinner with them in the hotel as well.
It was great for me but now im a parent i look abck and think how did those parents do it? There would be no way i'd be leaving my child in a hotel room with a complete stranger!Lightbulb moment Dec 2005 - debt £23700

No there isn't one, just if you leave a child under 16 on their own or in charge if anything happens you could be prosecuted. I think a lot depends on the circs though, and the babysitter and children. There are some adults I know that I wouldn't leave my goldfish with.;)zoeleigh wrote:), although I thought the legal age was 14 to babysit and 12 to be on their own at home? (obviously not for long periods).0 -

We pay £7 p/h for an experienced Nursery Nurse to come and babysit.... having read some of the other posters on this thread I think we might be paying too much!0

Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts

I used to get paid £3 an hour 14 years ago, when I was 14, and now the girl I used to babysit for babysits for us and she only charges £3 an hour (shes also 14) She gets dropped off at our house and we take her home its 20 mins away.0

Did she mean during the day ? ie nannying as thats sounds about right
Its different if its just evening sitting IMO, as mostly the children are already in bed ,so you are just literally "sitting" lol in someone elses house.
The amount of duty needs to be reflected in the fee I think

Hi
I tend to pay around £5ph but rounded up generously for pure sitting i.e. turning up after lo is in bed and literally just sitting there. This is also for unqualified people i.e. teenagers that live in the same village. If someone was qualified and / or doing the getting to be routine I would expect to pay more. I think it largely depends on the circumstances and I personally have never had a babysitter under 16 (in fact I am reluctant to have anyone under 18) but if the right teenager was available then I would prob be ok with it.
I also pay slightly over the odds for our area as I live in a rural village so if the person is travelling there is added time out for the sitter.

A local Nanny told me she babysits for £8 a hour in the evening. It seemed quite pricey, but I would ask her as I trust her and the kids know her. Thankfully, I have parents who babysit and I just want emergency backup!MFW 2019#24 £9474.89/£11000 MFW 2018#24 £23025.41/£15000
