How much do you pay a babysitter?

We have decided to use a friend's daughter as a babysitter and give grandparents a break - all very reliable and we are happy now children are 9 & 7, to go out more often.
But - how much does anyone pay their babysitter? And for how long?

How old is she as this will make a difference? I think it varies greatly in different areas. How much can you afford? I usually pay my little sis who's 14 £5 plus buy her a pizza and maybe a DVD. My cousins daughter gets £10 as she's nearly 16. In fairness my sister would do if for free cos she loves been with my boys.

We pay 16 yo neice between £10-£20 for the evening. £10 for an 'ordinary night' in before midnight, £15 if after midnight and £20 for special event like New Years eve, but we did do her a deal over her mums xmas pressie and we would buy her mums pressie (a decent one) in return for 3 nights 'free' babysitting. She jumped at chance.0

My friends daughter is 14. Previous babysitters at around 16 have never lasted long - boyfriends etc start coming along!!
I don't seem to be short of choice - the "in" thing for 14 year olds seems to be babysitting to earn money - much easier than a paperround and earns more money!DFW No. 344
