Sleeping at Stansted Airport

Used Luton airport parking once, ended up sleeping in the car for a few hours before going to check-in.
Not the best sleep in the world, but overall cheaper than the cost of Parking + Hotel.
You have to do what you need to do..0 -
In my younger backpacking days I could sleep anywhere and would not have found this situation unusual. I once slept on a bench at Gare Nord in Paris. An airport can be reasonably comfortable.0

We (2 adults, 2 young children) always sleep in Athens airport for one night at the start of our holidays.
The ferries to the islands go at around 7:30am, therefore we need to be at the docks at around 6:30am, which means leaving the hotel at around 6am. This means getting up at around 5:30am. There is a two hour time difference between the UK and Greece, so that is in effect getting up at 3:30am, which I can do without!
We have found it easier to take the late flight which leaves Heathrow at about 9, and gets us in to Athens at 2am (the time difference working for us here), then having just 2-3 hours to kill before we get to the port. There are plenty of hidey holes where one can get a couple of hours kip.
The money we save we can use to get a cabin on the ferry and get some decent shut eye!0 -
Have personally slept in airports all over the world.
From arriving into Manchester at midnight and finding no train until 5am, to sleeping at Changi (Singapore) and waking up at 3am freezing cold and going outside to get warm, to sleeping in the car at LAX.
Point being sometimes it's not about money, its a case of being easier.
Actually I was walking around Chennai (or it might have been Mumbai actually) airport last year looking for food and stumbled upon a sleep room. There was a room full of chairs that were laid right back with the purpose of people sleeping on them.
Actually, here is a pic of my kids fast asleep on the floor of the 1st class lounge of Varanasi Train Station Northern India. The train to Mumbai was delayed for about 10 hours iirc.0 -
Thanks guys for all your feedback, turned out to be a quite amusing thread in the end. Anyway, the good news is, that I found transport that leaves from Bristol at 22.30 and arrives at Stanstead at 2.45. So should be a mit more than 1 hour to kill before security check-in opens and I can spend some time in the airport lounge
