Go to the branch and don't leave until you've spoken to the manager.

I'm sure that I've read on here before that the Barclays description "MANCHESTER PREMIUM ADVERT RECONCILE" that this is them doing anti money laundering checks, which could be why you couldn't really be told anything about it.

Thanks for this thread...... No wonder they didn't want me to call the police, which I have done anyway!! Barclays dont seem to give a damn whether the account they are attacking is innocent or not!!?? How are they allowed to get away with this treatment..... Barclays moto clearly seem to be guilty until proven innocent if this is the case.. I am truly shocked at how disgracefully they have treated me. There has been no empathy, the staff are rude to me, feels like big brother watching, making wrong judgments as and when they feel like it. They are absolutely treating me as if I have done something wrong, which I absolutely haven't :(

Money isn't usually moved out of an account when money laundering checks are done, the accounts are just blocked to prevent usage.

I know most banks don't HSBC just froze mine when carrying out checks.

But I'm sure Barclays withdraw it to just stop you using that money.

When it happened to me with HSBC however, they were very pleasant when I went into branch. I complained and got a whole £10 because the branch had told me it would be available at 3pm on one day when it wouldn't be.

How do you operate your accounts ? Do you have large value transfers in and out or have you recently paid in a large cheque or credit ? If something has happened on your account recently which is unusual and not within your normal spending pattern, then i would think that Barclays have become suspicious about whats happening and are using Anti Money Laundering Regulations. If they are they can't tell you anything at all. Not even that they are doing this. If they do, they can be prosecuted.

I doubt you'll get a response from the OP as he hasn't been back in a year and a half since making his last post.

What does your online banking show for the transactions that made you overdrawn?
