Thanks for all your replies, I think ill get rid of any sharp edges, and just hope for the best, mot not due till December.

I do not recommend 'hoping for the best'

Get professional advice. An MOT tester would probably advise you free of charge whether or not the existing damage would be considered a failure.

If it's considered a failure, then the car is considered unroadworthy. Not only would it be a safety hazard, but you could expect a tug by Plod if he spots it.

I had three largish plates welded onto one of mine for it's MOT, rust behind the oversill, £100. Dented isn't a fail, so long as there aren't sharp holes torn into it.

from the latest mot test manual
    Any deliberate modification, excessive
    corrosion, damage, fracture or inadequate
repair not within a prescribed area which
adversely affects braking or steering by
severely reducing the strength or continuity of a
    main load bearing structural member
    .

a sill on this car is a load bearer so as i said it needs an mot man to assess the damage as is before dismissing

quote from me the great orlando sb:D earlier further up
if it is only dented and not actually got a hole anywhere then it is pass and advise assuming its not distorted to seriously reducebody structure
i suggest you leave it and let mot man decide

its all there if you read up on it
