Sky Broadband + Phone Bundle

We have been with Sky unlimited broadband for approx 15 months now with no real problems, we get betwwen 3 to 5 mb broadband speed and at the moment it is costing us £15 a month. We have been thinking of doing a complete broadband, phone calls and line rental bundle. looking at Sky they offer us unlimited broadband, anytime calls and line rental for £27.25 a month, the only real gripe i have with Sky is they will only let you use there crap router. There seem to be a few deals out there, I prefer to try and keep unlimited broadband , most of all we use it for surfing, and music downloads, but we have ipayer on the TV and this seems to eat into broaadband usage, but could possibly be ok with free weekend and evening calls. Main worry is moving the Phone Line from BT, we rarely have problems with it and when there is a fault they have always been excellent in sorting it out. I worry that moving the line could lead to long delays in line fault repairs. Any advice or help appreciated, our exchage is Taunton and LLU,whatever that means i was told to check it out.

Nothing wrong with Sky's router, I have one of the Wireless N ones and it works a treat.
Can't see why as a Sky subscriber you are paying £15/ month.
Assuming its Unlimited LLU you should be paying £12.50 / month.
Taking Talk Freetime would give you a £5 discount, i,e. £7.50 / month.
Talk unlimited is £5 / month extra.
A useful saving is to pay 12months line rental up front @ £119.40.
If you get a line fault its the same BT Openreach engineers who sort out the problem, I've had them out recently myself and they work well with Sky.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Its £15 a month as we don't have sky tv.the router we have a Sagem, looks like a mini version of a Sky box, its the wireless on it thats very poor. We moved to Sky on a special deal when they closed UKonline down, they sent the router,i had no choice in it,and we are on unlimited broadband, and get approx3 to 5mb.I did ask about using another router but they said i have to use there router. I know its possible to change routers, but it looks difficult to do,and i'm not overkeen on attempting it.Plus Sky offer no help. Would like to get phone line and line rental costs down, and thinking package deals maybe the way to go.Nothing wrong with Sky's router, I have one of the Wireless N ones and it works a treat.

OK, I forgot the non subscribers rate.
It used to be possible to extract the username and password from Sky routers to enable you to use your own, but sky wont support them, and its against their T&Cs.
www.skyuser.co.uk would be the place to find info.
I've seen some homeplug style wireless extenders which might help extend your coverage.

Not cheap though!
PS I guess you have the same router as me

The line is maintained by BT Openreach regardless of your ISP, so it makes no difference. BT Retail is nothing to do with BT OR (just under the same holding company) and has the same relationship with OR as Sky or any other telcom. No free lunch, and no free laptop
